More snow chances before dangerous cold arrives
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — More snow chances on the way for Siouxland with a cold front that will drop temperatures to bitter cold and dangerous levels.
Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for much of Siouxland beginning tonight! A couple different sets of Advisories though.
The first set is for the following counties: Dakota (NE), Dixon (NE), Union (SD), Plymouth (IA), Woodbury (IA), O'Brien (IA), Cherokee (IA), Ida (IA), Dickinson (IA), Clay (IA), and Buena Vista (IA). Advisories for these counties will be in effect from 9 PM tonight through 3 PM Saturday.
The other Advisories for the following counties: Wayne (NE), Stanton (NE), Cuming (NE), Burt (NE), Thurston (NE), Monona (IA), Harrison (IA), Crawford (IA), Calhoun (IA), Sac (IA), Pocahontas (IA), and Palo Alto (IA) will be in effect from midnight (12 AM) tonight through 6 PM Saturday.

Snow accumulations up to 1-3″ and light icing and sleet are expected. This will lead to slick and hazardous conditions. Plan on slippery road conditions. Slow down and use caution if you have to travel!
Behind the snow, temperatures plummet, with highs in the single digits both above and below zero through the second half of the weekend and through much of next week.
Overnight lows drop into the teens and low 20's below zero with wind chills likely falling into the 30's and 40's below for several nights.
In addition, daytime wind chills likely to stay sub-zero, as low as -15 to -25°.
Temperatures at these levels would lead to frostbite in less than 10-15 minutes, so it's going to be important to limit your time outside, dress in layers, and cover as much skin as you can to protect yourself from the cold and frostbite.

You'll need to protect pets and farm animals from the bitter cold as well by keeping them inside and out of the cold as much as possible. If possible, you may want to consider coats, boots, and hats for your pets as well.
Also make sure to open up sink cabinets to let warmer air in to prevent pipes from freezing and/or bursting. It may be a good idea to let your faucets drip as well.
