Officials inspect Rath Yatra route, review preparations

1 2 Kanpur: District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Thursday conducted a site inspection to review the preparations for the Jagannath Rath Yatra to be taken out on Friday. The Rath Yatra has been a part of the city's culture for about 250 years, Singh said, adding, "Rath Yatra is not only a symbol of devotion but also a living example of social harmony and cultural unity. " The Rath Yatra will be taken out on Friday at 5pm and will pass through various city localities on its 5.5km route. The DM stated that in view of the large scale of the event and the number of devotees, the preparations for the Rath Yatra were reviewed by the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on June 25 and clear guidelines were given to the concerned departments regarding the same. This tradition was like a cultural bridge between Uttar Pradesh and Orissa, the DM said. The DM said that most of the preparations like cleaning, drinking water, electricity, lighting etc. have been completed and the remaining work will be completed by evening. Singh urged the citizens to participate in the Rath Yatra enthusiastically while maintaining discipline. Additional municipal commissioner, additional district magistrate city, police administration and other officers were present during the inspection. Mayor Pramila Pandey and municipal commissioner Sudhir kumar and other officials also inspected the route of Jagannath Yatra and Muharram on Thursday morning. The mayor first reached Generalganj from where she inspected the traditional Jagannath Rath Yatra route passing through Express Road, Nayaganj, Sirki Mohalla, Chatai Mohalla, Kamala Tower, Dhankutti etc and gave instructions for proper lighting and patchwork. Later, the mayor and the officials inspected the Muharram Tazia procession route in Patkapur Parade and other areas and gave necessary instructions regarding cleanliness. The DM also inspected the Bari Karbala located at Nawabganj in view of the upcoming Muharram procession. During the inspection, he gave instructions to ensure proper arrangements keeping in mind the huge crowd coming to Karbala. He directed the district administration to set up a medical camp in the presence of KESCO and Municipal Corporation officials so that immediate help could be provided in case of any emergency. Besides, he directed the concerned officers to ensure arrangements for additional ambulances, mobile toilets and pure drinking water.
