Fire does $50,000 in damage to Longview metal waste recycling facility
LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) – The Longview Fire Department said they responded to a fire at the Alpha Omega Recycling facility on Sunday. New recycling facility in Kilgore opens for many East Texans The fire was reported after workers at the Alpha Omega facility on 315 Whatley Road noticed that smoke had started coming from chemicals. Longview Fire Department said this smoke suggested the materials in the facility had spontaneously combusted. After Longview firefighters had responded to the facility, the found smoke coming from the back of an exterior structure. Longview Fire Department said their firefighters were able to contain the fire damage to the structure and one of its walls. No injuries were reported and Longview Fire Department estimated the fire did around $50,000 in damage. The fire department responded to the facility with six fire engines, three ladder trucks, two ambulances and six support vehicles. TYLER, Texas (KETK) – The Texas Association of Broadcasters has awarded KETK and FOX51 with this year's Bonner McLane Public Service Award for Medium Market Television. KETK News wins Edward R. Murrow sports reporting award for 'Hometown Heeler' story The association credited our station with advancing the East Texas community through our collaboration with groups like Young Audiences, Arts for Learning of Northeast Texas. 'The people of Tyler are fortunate to have the benefit of your team's focus on advancing your community by keeping them informed of developments important to their well-being,' Texas Association of Broadcasters (TAB) president Oscar Rodriguez said. The award is named for TAB's first executive director, Bonner McLane. Our station will be honored among other TAB award nominees at this year's TAB Show in August. KETK Anchor Isaac Ramirez has served on the board of Young Audiences and News Director Joe Spadea serves on the board as president-elect. Crockett woman arrested for allegedly selling fentanyl-laced fake pills leading to a man's death
Crockett, Texas (KETK) – A woman in Crockett has been arrested after allegedly selling counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl that led to a man's death. The Crockett Police Department said that they received reports of an unresponsive man on May 21 and went to the person's apartment on Sallas Street at around 11 p.m. Once on the scene, officers along with Houston County EMS discovered the individual had died, which was believed to be caused by a drug overdose. Woman accused of stealing wig from corpse at Tyler funeral home Inside the victim's apartment, officers reported finding small blue pills marked 'M 30' which are known to resemble oxycodone or Percocet. Further investigation led officials to believe that the pills were counterfeit and contained fentanyl, causing the victim's death. Authorities discovered that the victim had bought the pills from Kimberlee Ann Sherman of Crockett and obtained an arrest warrant for Sherman on May 22. She was arrested later that day and charged with delivery of a controlled substance. The next day, Sherman posted a $25,000 bond and was released. Chris Dickerson's memorial highway bill heading to governor's desk
Panola County, Texas (KETK) — The bill filed to rename FM 10 in Panola County as 'Deputy Sheriff Chris Dickerson Memorial Highway' was passed through the Texas House on Wednesday and is making its way to the governor. Two bills that could raise homestead tax exemptions head to the governor's desk Sheriff's Deputy Chris Dickerson was shot and killed by Gregory Newson on FM 10 in Panola County during a traffic stop back in 2019. Newson was found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to death in 2024, his execution date has not been scheduled as of now. Earlier this year, State Senator Bryan Hughes of Mineola filed SB 1230 to rename FM 10 in Dickerson's honor. The senate passed the bill and sent it to the Texas House. Longtime federal prosecutor named acting U.S. Attorney for Eastern District of Texas SB1230 received unanimous votes in favor of its purpose, including eight ayes in the Senate Transportation Committee and eleven ayes in the House Transportation Committee, according to the Texas Legislature website.
