Pittsburgh Penguins sign forward prospect Mikhail Ilyin to 3-year, entry-level contract

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward prospect Mikhail Ilyin to a three-year entry-level contract. The contract will begin in the 2025-26 season and will run through 2027-28. Ilyin, 20, spent the majority of the 2024-25 season with the Severstal Cherepovets of the KHL, Russia's top professional league. Billed as a 6-foot-3, 191-pound forward, this past season, he appeared in 64 regular-season games, where he recorded seven goals, 23 assists, and 30 points. Ilyin's assist and point totals were new single-season career highs and ranked third overall on Severstal, per a news release from the Penguins. His 30 points during his 19-year-old season (turned 20 in February 2025) make him one of just eight players in KHL history to accumulate 30-plus points in a single campaign as a teenager, and ties the Cherepovets team record set by 19-year-old Pavel Buchnevich in 2014-15, the news release added. Ilyin made his professional debut in the KHL as a 17-year-old. In 150 career regular-season games, Ilyin has tallied 19 goals, 42 assists, 61 points, and is plus-22. He's also played in 10 career KHL playoff games, recording five assists. Ilyin has also spent parts of the last four seasons with Almaz Cherepovets of the MHL, Russia's top junior league, where he accrued 40 points (eight goals, 32 assists) in 55 regular-season games. Ilyin was drafted by the Penguins in the fifth round (142nd overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft.

Avalanche sign KHL G Ilya Nabokov to entry-level deal

May 30 - The Colorado Avalanche signed goaltender Ilya Nabokov to a two-year entry-level contract on Friday. The Russian spent the past two-plus years with the KHL's Metallurg Magnitogorsk and was named the KHL Rookie of the Year for the 2023-24 season. Colorado selected him in the second round (38th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft, making him the first goaltender picked that year. The Avs experienced a season of transition at the goaltender position in 2024-25. They traded Alexandar Georgiev and Justus Annunen less than two months into the season and acquired Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood; six players in all made at least one start between the pipes for Colorado. --Field Level Media

Hurricanes Defenseman Recognized As KHL All-Star

What a year it's been for Alexander Nikishin. The touted prospect finally made his way to North America after years of hype and was even able get a few games under his belt in the NHL playoffs too. Advertisement The 23-year-old defenseman made his NHL debut facing one of his hockey idols in Alex Ovechkin, playing in Game 5 of the Carolina Hurricanes' second-round series against the Washington Capitals. While that game wasn't necessarily one to remember for him, Nikishin was forced back into the lineup due to additional injuries to the Hurricanes blueline and that's when he really started to impress. Despite facing the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final, Nikishin looked calm and composed and was even tasked with playing significant minutes. He looked every bit an NHL regular despite that inexperience. Advertisement But before he was in North America, he was finishing up his sixth season in the KHL. Nikishin's final year in Russia was another big one as the 6-foot-3 defender racked up 17 goals and 46 points in 61 games while captaining SKA St. Petersburg. The talented blueliner was an integral piece for SKA, playing 20+ minutes nightly and in all situations. As such, he was recognized at the end of the year as one of six players selected to the 2025 KHL All-Star Team. Former Hurricane Josh Leivo was also named to the 2025 All-Star Team as he set the KHL single-season scoring record with a 49-goal campaign. Flames rumoured to be interested in Russian goaltender Ivan Prosvetov

Article content One of the starting netminders from the KHL has opted out of his contract to rekindle his NHL dream. Article content Article content And as media in Russia speculate about the next stop for Ivan Prosvetov, there are rumblings that he could wind up with the Calgary Flames. Article content In fact, Sport Express is reporting that the Flames are the 'main contender' to sign the 26-year-old puck-stopper. Article content If this name is familiar to fans, it's because Prosvetov's resume already includes four seasons of spot duty as an NHLer. He totalled 13 appearances with the Arizona Coyotes between 2021-23 and 11 more with the Colorado Avalanche during the 2023-24 campaign. His career stat sheet shows an 8-9-2 record, a 3.70 goals-against average and an .881 save percentage. Article content Article content Prosvetov, who is listed at 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds, posted much better numbers this season as the go-to goalie for CSKA Moscow, highlighted by a 2.32 GAA, a .920 save percentage and four shutouts. He reportedly had two years remaining on his KHL contract, but he was recently allowed to opt out of that deal to explore another NHL opportunity. Article content If it's true that the Flames are making a pitch, it would hint that they're not optimistic that Dan Vladar will be sticking around as Dustin Wolf's backup. Vladar is set to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and although the 27-year-old has expressed interest in remaining in Calgary, perhaps those negotiations have reached a stalemate.
