Summer heat and humidity continue with few rain chances
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – After a steamy start to the day, sunshine will help to warm temperatures quickly around the area. Highs reach the lower 90s this afternoon with little to help break the heat. An isolated storm will be possible, but most areas will miss out on any rain. This weekend, the heat will continue around the area as temperatures both Saturday and Sunday reach the lower 90s. A few cooling storms will develop, especially Sunday, but again, most of the area will remain rain-free. In the tropics, dry air and wind shear are preventing anything from forming in the Gulf, Caribbean, and Atlantic through the next week. Locally, a big change in the weather pattern comes our way for next week as a weak front settles across the area. This will bring increased rain chances to the area beginning Monday with heavier rainfall possible in parts of the area. This will keep temperatures in the 80s during the afternoon hours. Drier air settles in Saturday, Rain chances stay low
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Drier air has filtered in to Acadiana leading to a pretty nice Saturday. Sun and clouds will mix through the day as temperatures climb into the upper 80s. No rain is expected through the evening and overnight hours. Tonight, we'll see temperatures drop into the 60s across Acadiana under mostly clear skies. Sunday will start out with drier weather again and plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will climb quickly and will reach the mid 80s during the afternoon hours. A quick-moving system to the north will push through during the afternoon hours. This could trigger a few showers and storms during the afternoon hours, but most of the areas will stay dry. Through the next week, we won't see many rain chances around. Each day, a pop-up storm or two will be possible as temperatures approach 90 degrees in the afternoon. Better rain chances return for the end of the week into next weekend. Hurricane Season begins Sunday in the Atlantic Basin. The outlooks for this season are pointing to an above-average season again. However, it only takes one storm to make it a memorable season. Make sure you are stocked up on your supplies and have your hurricane preparedness kits ready just in case! Hot and mostly dry Memorial Day; Heavy rain threat this week
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – After a hot and mostly dry Sunday with temperatures in the 90s, high humidity settles back in overnight. Temperatures will settle in the 70s with just a few clouds in the sky. Memorial Day will start out humid and dry buy temperatures climb quickly. Most of the area will reach the 90s. A few storms develop in the afternoon hours. This week, we will keep a close watch on heavy rainfall potential beginning Tuesday. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms look to push through Acadiana with much of the area seeing between two and five inches of rain. A few areas may get more than that if storms stall out. A low-end severe threat will exist each afternoon Tuesday through Friday for strong winds and hail. Temperatures will hold in the mid 80s. Heading into next weekend, rain chances begin to back off and a weak front will hopefully push through the area Sunday to bring slightly lower humidity and take away rain chances. As we've seen recently, this is far from set in storm and may change in the days ahead. Download the KLFY Weather App by clicking here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Daily storm chances as summer pattern sticks around
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Showers and storms have ended for the day and quiet weather settles in for the night. Temperatures will drop into the 70s as high humidity settles back in. Sunday will start out dry but storms develop around lunchtime and slowly move across the area through the afternoon. This could cause localized flood concerns again, so be aware that if you come across floodwaters, find an alternative route! While Memorial Day looks mostly dry and hot, the same can't be said for the rest of the week as the weather pattern stalls with multiple storm systems moving through each day. At times, this rain could be heavy and cause flooding. Tuesday through Friday could see between two and five inches of rain fall across most of Acadiana and a low-end severe threat, mainly for large hail and gusty winds, will exist through Friday. Next weekend looks drier as finally a front looks to slide south of the coast pushing most of the moisture away from the area. While afternoon storms will still be possible, we should see more dry times than wet which will allow temperatures to climb back to near 90 degrees. Download the KLFY Weather App by clicking here. Summer heat grips Lafayette as temperatures soar
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Summer heat and humidity are here to stay as temperatures jump quickly through Saturday. Highs reach near 90 degrees during the afternoon. Isolated storms will develop this afternoon to help cool temperatures down a bit for a lucky few. Overnight, temperatures fall into the 70s with a few passing clouds. Sticky air will make it feel fairly uncomfortable Sunday morning. Sunday will see a mix of clouds and sun with pop-up storms developing late in the day. These will be slow-movers and could lead to ponding on the roads. Next week, the weather pattern turns much stormier with passing disturbances each day. Some of these storms will produce heavy rain and flooding will be possible in flood-prone areas. Severe weather is currently not expected, but keep up with the weather this week in case things change. Outside of the stormy weather, temperatures will be a bit better as they hold in the 80s thanks to the extra cloud cover and rain chances. Download the KLFY Weather App by clicking here.
