Kavitha stages protest against notice to KCR in Kaleshwaram issue

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) member of the legislative council (MLC) Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Wednesday called the notice summons issued to her father and party president K Chandrasekhar Rao in connection with Kaleshwaram irrigation project as 'politically motivated' Addressing a protest organised in Hyderabad by Telangana Jagruti against the commission's notice to KCR, Kavitha accused the Congress government of seeking to 'erase' KCR's legacy as farmers love him for his pro-farmer initiatives. 'Totally, 40 lakh (4 million) acres will get water once the Kaleshwaram project is completed. All that is kept aside. The conspiracy is to tarnish the image of KCR,' she said. Justice PC Ghose commission has issued summon for questioning in connection with alleged irregularities in the construction of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) on Godavari river. During the protest at Hyderabad's Indira Park, no BRS leaders were part of the protest event and party flags were conspicuously absent. The party has been avoiding Kavitha's programmes ever since she took up the 'Samajika Telangana' (Telangana for social justice) cause on May 1. On May 2, she wrote a letter to her father raising several critical issues, such as allegations of a proposed merger with the Bharatiya Janata party and asserted that she would resist any such move. 'Wednesday's dharna opposing summons to KCR on the Kaleshwaram project issue is obviously an attempt to create a narrative that she is the true political heir of her father and expose the other party leaders, including her brother KT Rama Rao, who did not take up any protests even if the state government is targeting KCR,' said political analyst Syed Zakir. Meanwhile, Kavitha said that the Congress government had constituted the judicial commission headed by Justice Ghose only to politically target KCR. 'It is not the Kaleshwaram Commission, but a Congress Commission as the inquiry is not about accountability, but about political defamation,' she said. The Telangana Jagruthi president said issuing notices to KCR, who was instrumental in achieving Telangana's statehood, amounted to issuing notices to the entire population of the state. Kavitha claimed that the KLIP was a transformative effort that brought water to millions of acres across the state. 'The project is not confined to just three barrages, but comprises 21 pump houses, 15 reservoirs, 200 km of tunnels, and 1,500 km of canal network,' she asserted. The Telangana Congress refuted the allegations levelled by Kavitha on the Kaleshwaram commission issuing summons to KCR for questioning. 'The BRS leader is resorting to high drama only for her political survival,' senior Congress leader and state BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar said. He said that the Ghosh commission has the authority to summon anyone for inquiry. 'It's up to the commission to decide whom to summon. We are not opposing the construction of projects for providing water for irrigation. But the BRS leaders looted Telangana's wealth in the name of Kaleshwaram project,' he alleged. BRS MLC K Kavitha takes part in Dharna against notices issued to former Telangana CM KCR over irregularities in Kaleshwaram project

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 4 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Wednesday took part in the Telangana Jagruthi Maha Dharna against the notices issued to BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao by the Justice PC Ghose Commission probing the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project. 'The notices given to KCR garu are nothing but political notices to smear his name. My only demand is that the water of the Godavari River should be protected, and Telangana should get 1000 TMC of water. CM Revanth Reddy should write to the Central government immediately to stop the Banakacherla project by the Andhra Pradesh government,' Kalvakuntla Kavitha told mediapersons. Earlier on May 21, Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi MLC K Kavitha criticised the PC Ghose Commission for summoning former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in a probe related to irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project during the BRS regime. In a post on X, Kavitha emphasised that Kaleshwaram was built for the welfare of farmers and asserted that it is part of a 'calculated political conspiracy' against KCR. 'The notices to KCR Garu over the Kaleshwaram project are part of a calculated political conspiracy to tarnish the image of a true people's leader. Kaleshwaram was built for the welfare of farmers and future generations, not for politics. Today, this inefficient Congress government is undoing the very progress Telangana fought for,' Kavitha said. The BRS MLC further highlighted that KCR has devoted his life to Telangana and the transformation of barren lands into fields of prosperity and is now being targeted by the 'visionless' regime. 'KCR Garu, who has devoted his life to Telangana, transforming barren lands into fields of prosperity, is now being targeted by a visionless regime. No vindictive Government can diminish his legacy. The truth will prevail, and history will remember who stood for the people and who tried to bring them down,' K Kavitha said. Earlier, the Justice PC Ghose Commission issued summons to former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), former Minister Harish Rao, and BJP MP Etela Rajender, who also served as a minister during the BRS regime in the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). The Commission, which has been probing financial and procedural lapses in the multi-crore irrigation project, directed the three political leaders to appear for questioning in the first week of June. According to the sources, KCR was asked to appear before the Commission on June 5, followed by Harish Rao on June 6 and Etela Rajender on June 9. (ANI)

BJP MP Raghunandan Rao terms Kavitha's dharna a 'media stunt'

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 2 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Raghunandan Rao dismissed BRS MLC K Kavitha's call for a 'Maha Dharna' at Indira Park as a political attempt to remain in public view. The protest, scheduled for June 4, comes in response to a notice issued by the PC Ghose Commission to her father and Telangana former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in connection with the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. Calling the protest unnecessary, Rao said, 'Instead of doing a dharna at Indira Park, whatever the allegations against KCR, you can go and deny it before the commission.' Labelling the protest as mere theatrics, he said, 'Doing dharna is a mere political stunt to gain some relevance in the media, and there is nothing else to it.' Rao said the proper procedure should be followed in the matter and clarified that the Centre cannot independently initiate a probe without the state's consent. 'It is the duty of the state government to write a letter to the CBI, or to the Central government, to take the case. The CBI or the Centre cannot take the issue directly.' Kavitha, who had on May 21 objected to the PC Ghose commission's notice to KCR in connection with the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, has announced the protest as a response to what she termed 'calculated political conspiracy'. In a post on X, Kavitha emphasised that Kaleshwaram was built for the welfare of farmers. 'The notices to KCR Garu over the Kaleshwaram project are part of a calculated political conspiracy to tarnish the image of a true people's leader. Kaleshwaram was built for the welfare of farmers and future generations, not for politics. Today, this inefficient Congress government is undoing the very progress Telangana fought for,' Kavitha wrote. The BRS MLC further highlighted that KCR has devoted his life to Telangana and the transformation of barren lands into fields of prosperity, which is now being targeted by the 'visionless' regime. 'KCR Garu, who has devoted his life to Telangana, transforming barren lands into fields of prosperity, is now being targeted by a visionless regime. No vindictive Government can diminish his legacy. The truth will prevail, and history will remember who stood for the people and who tried to bring them down,' the post read. Justice PC Ghose Commission on May 20 had issued summons to former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), former Minister Harish Rao, and BJP MP Etela Rajender, who also served as a minister during the BRS regime, in the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). The Commission, which has been probing financial and procedural lapses in the multi-crore irrigation project, directed the three political leaders to appear for questioning in the first week of June. BRS leaders should quit their posts till probes are completed: BJP

The BJP has demanded the BRS leaders, including former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, his son and former Minister K.T. Rama Rao, nephew and former Minister T. Harish Rao and his daughter and MLC K. Kavita, resign from their respective posts accepting moral responsibility even if they are 'not guilty' about the various scams during the previous government's tenure. Party vice president and former MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar told a media conference that it is not enough for the BRS leaders to profess innocence in front of the press or television media personnel on the various corruption charges. Rather, they should cooperate with the investigating agencies if they have nothing to hide and accept any political posts or positions only after getting a clean chit. The entire Telangana wants to know the story behind the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) imbroglio and various contentious issues like the illegal phone tapping, liquor and land deals, Formula-E racing, animal husbandry deals, etc., which are under investigation with all the above mentioned leaders getting notices from various investigative agencies. It is unprecedented that top leaders of a regional-family party are in the dock at the same time, he said. The BJP leader insisted that contrary to what the BRS leaders have been claiming, the notices issued by the investigative agencies are related to corruption issues and has nothing to do with politics. 'Insult to people' In a separate press conference, Rajya Sabha MP and national OBC Morcha president K. Laxman has said that it is an insult to the people of Telangana that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and other ruling party leaders had to be kept waiting in Delhi seeking audience of the high command. 'The Chief Minister is said to have made 36 trips to Delhi. Though he belongs to a national party and has to consult his top leadership, making him and other leaders wait for days does not auger well. In any case, nothing seems to be come out of the elaborate discussions whether it is rejigging the party organisation or taking new Ministers into the cabinet,' he said. Mr. Laxman also took offence to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticising the Modi government and said the latter had done more in the last 11 years which the Congress-led governments failed to do so when in power.

BJP slams govt. over KLIS repair costs, demands recovery from errant parties

HYDERABAD BJP Chief Whip and Sirpur MLA Palvai Harish Babu has demanded clarification from Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy regarding the cost incurred for repair and restoration of the Medigadda Barrage and other barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). According to Mr. Harish Babu, contractors involved in the project, including L&T-PES and Afcons, have written a letter demanding that the government bear the entire cost of renovation. In a statement here on Sunday, he warned that if the government bears the entire cost of reconstruction without exposing the corruption, it will burden people. The estimated repair cost will be around ₹10,000 crore, he said. The contractors are demanding reimbursement for work to be done as per NDSA recommendations, which could cost up to ₹40 crore. Mr. Harish Babu also slammed BRS leaders, including former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao and former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, for reportedly refusing to attend the Judicial Commission's inquiry into the fiasco. He also demanded action against companies involved in the project, and sought recovery of funds from responsible parties. Government should stop the final bill payment for Medigadda Barrage until KLIP's restoration is complete, he said.
