‘Possibly hundreds' of mail pieces found scattered on busy downtown St. Louis street
ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis radio personality found 'possibly hundreds' of pieces of mail scattered across a busy downtown street early Tuesday morning during her commute to work. Debbie Monterrey, a longtime KMOX radio host, came across the scene around 4 a.m. Tuesday on 14th Street near its intersection with Clark Avenue, just steps from the Enterprise Center. Monterrey shared a 15-second video clip of her experience with FOX 2, a news partner of KMOX, and reflected on the odd discovery Wednesday during 'The Chris and Amy Show' on KMOX. 'I'm just driving in how I do. And I get towards the light and I'm like 'What?,'' said Monterrey. 'At first I thought somebody knocked over a garbage can, but then I realized, this is mail. Then, as I started looking around, there was tons of it. And those bins, the sort of white corrugated bins they use for the mail, there were a couple of them smashed in the street and just some piles. Pretty significant piles and then just mail scattered everywhere.' The video shows letters and parcels of various sizes, some in piles, spread out over several car lengths. Monterrey estimated there may have been hundreds of pieces of mail. 'I didn't know what to do because you can't call the post office at 4 in the morning. No one is answering the phone,' said Monterrey. 'I called 911 and no one answered the phone. I thought I don't know if I should call police, but someone needs to get the mail off and it's not my job. What am I going to do?' Monterrey then headed to her office, and another co-worker who showed up shortly after informed her that someone, believed to be a mail worker, was cleaning up the mess. So how did it get there? That remains unclear. It's worth noting the U.S. Postal Service has a major St. Louis processing facility less than a mile away at 1720 Market Street. 'My theory here is it probably fell off a truck because it didn't look like stuff that was being delivered by a postal carrier,' said Monterrey. 'It looked like stuff that was being trucked somewhere else.' FOX 2 reached out to a USPS spokesperson for comment, who provided this brief statement, but nothing more: 'We're making every effort to ensure all mail has been recovered and delivered timely.' It's unclear how many pieces of mail may have been scattered or whether any deliveries were damaged or delayed. FOX 2 will update if new information becomes available. KMOX expands reach with FM frequency
ST. LOUIS – Generations of listeners have grown up listening to 1120 KMOX, but now they're adding another signal but keeping their AM station. 'For a long time, KMOX was designated to fill the gaps across the country,' said Steve Moore, VP News of Talk & Sports Audacy St. Louis. 'It was designated as a clear channel radio station in 44 states and parts of Canada and Cuba.' For almost 100 years, KMOX has been the voice of St. Louis, 1120 on your AM dial, driving in the car or on a cross-country trip. But now, the former Hot 104.1 moves to 98.7. 'What this allows us to do is have a super strong, really beefy sound in town, like from Festus to Litchfield,' said Dave Glover, Host Dave Glover Show. 'Then outside of there, the AM signal will get you to where you need to go, Arkansas or Iowa.' Monday afternoon in downtown St. Louis, Dave Glover is on-air, talking of the passing of Brian McKenna—a familiar voice to the afternoon show. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now The show has shared stories like this with listeners in a familiar format, but now on FM and car radio. 'FM is bigger and younger,' Glover said. 'For the most part, we'll keep everyone as far as demographics. Nothing is wrong with 75-year-old listeners, but I think it will be my age and a little younger.' Moore also shares the exact sentiment on the radio's transition. 'As far as I'm concerned, it's a long time coming,' Moore said. 'I've always had the desire to move KMOX to the FM dial to complement the AM dial and to get the app—to get the information to as many people as possible on as many platforms as possible.' ‘Just feces everywhere': Residents seek answers after sewer backup destroys basements
ST. LOUIS – A basement floor soaked with water from a sewer backup. More than a dozen Green Park residents would like to forget the grease and feces-filled remnants of a Friday afternoon. 'There was three inches of just sludge and grease and just feces everywhere,' said Greg Lico. While cleanup and restoration crews have been diligently working in Denise Asher-Snyder's basement on Marbob Drive, signs of destruction are easily visible. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now 'This happened on a beautiful day. It was, what? 70 degrees, Friday, blue skies (and) sunny. It was perfect,' Asher-Snyder said. Denise said the fact an act of God wasn't responsible for this damage makes it all the worse. Up and down Marbob Drive, FOX 2 saw cleanup crews parked in driveways. More than a dozen residents of this Green Park neighborhood were impacted by a sewer backup. MSD says it was caused by grease getting into the wastewater line. 'An extensive amount of grease would be a good way to put it. There was a lot. We pulled about three buckets out of the 400-foot reach of the eight-inch line. That is far more than it would take to block up a line that size,' said Sean Stone, who was with MSD Project Clear. Stone said the exact source of the grease is still unclear, but he noted that the neighborhood is just east of a stretch of South Lindbergh Road lined with restaurants. 'We're going to be going into all those restaurants and looking at their grease systems and traps and making sure they're clean and operating as they're supposed to so this sort of thing doesn't happen again,' Stone said. Stone added that MSD will help out the residents who were impacted by the incident. KMOX to trade FM frequencies later this month 'I don't want to get ahead of the investigation and say what that's going to look like right now; our focus is on making sure the system is operating as it should be,' Stone said. 'We took care of that when we cleared that blockage. Finding the source of this, making sure there aren't any other blockages around there. If we can find out who's responsible for this, we're going to hold them accountable in any way that we can.' According to Stone, the insurance company MSD works with is reaching out to residents directly. Residents, however, want this issue to be fixed as soon as possible. 'Hopefully they will, because they need to. This is their problem. I pay my bill on time every month. Never had a problem. You know, paying my bills. I pay my bills. This is totally unacceptable,' Asher-Snyder said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

KMOX to trade FM frequencies later this month
Note: This video is from March 2012. ST. LOUIS – It was announced Monday that KMOX will be switching frequencies later this month with a station that laid off their entire on-air staff last week. Beginning March 24, KMOX will be switching from 98.7 FM to 104.1 FM, which was the frequency under WHHL, who will be taking over 98.7 FM instead. Our partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Friday that WHHL Hot 104.1 let go of all five of their on air-hosts and DJs the day prior. Both stations are operated under Audacy. The transition occurs just ahead of the Opening Day on March 27 as KMOX is the official home radio for Cardinals baseball. Local Gold Star parents speak out after terrorist behind deadly attack captured 'We're thrilled to expand KMOX's reach and bring the trusted news and entertainment our listeners rely on, as well as Cardinals baseball, on an enhanced FM signal that covers the greater St. Louis region,' Audacy St. Louis and Wichita Senior Vice President and Market Manager Becky Domyan said in a release. 'We're equally as excited to continue delivering the hottest hip-hop and R&B on HOT 98.7's new dial position.' KMOX will continue to air on 1120 AM. FOX 2 reached out to Audacy regarding the changes, and a spokesperson stated 'We have nothing else to add aside from the press release.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
