Border force jawan martyred in Pak shelling in Jammu cremated with state honours

Constable Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF), who made the supreme sacrifice during the India-Pakistan conflict, was cremated with full state honours in Imphal on Tuesday. Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla, who was present at the wreath-laying ceremony held at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, paid homage to the 25-year-old martyr, who served in the 7th Battalion of the Bhalla laid a wreath as a mark of respect and praised the courage and supreme sacrifice made by the young soldier, who was martyred during a drone attack launched by Pakistan in the RS Pura sector of Jammu amid military tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 civilian political leaders, including Lok Sabha MP Bimol Akoijam, Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba, and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra, were present at the ceremony. They joined senior officials from the BSF, Manipur Police, the Army, Assam Rifles, State Administration, and family members in paying their last respects to Constable Chingakham. In recognition of his bravery and sacrifice, the Manipur government also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for his family under the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh Ashok Chakra (P) Scheme. The announcement was made via the official X handle of Raj Bhavan, Manipur, shortly before the arrival of his body to his home town in to the media, Constable Chingakham's father, Chingakham Bonbihari, said, "I feel proud of my son for his supreme sacrifice while fighting for the protection of the country".advertisementFormer Chief Minister N Biren Singh also visited the constable's residence to console the grieving a heartfelt message on social media, Singh said, "His quiet courage and deep sense of service will always be remembered with respect. The love and pride his family holds for him are deeply moving".Manipur Congress president K Meghachandra also saluted the constable's sacrifice, stating, "His martyrdom in the service of the nation during Operation Sindoor in cross-border firing along the International Boundary will be inked in the history of our fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism".Following the wreath-laying ceremony at the airport, Constable Chingakham was cremated with military honours at his birthplace, bringing an emotional end to the hero's final journey. Guwahati: Congress has decided to take out a 'Tiranga Rally' in Imphal on Friday as a mark of respect and to extend solidarity to India's armed forces following Operation Sindoor .AICC member and senior spokesperson N Bupenda Meitei on Thursday told media in Imphal, " Manipur Congress committee will be holding a 'Tiranga rally' under the leadership of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K Meghachandra. At this critical juncture the party has unanimously decided to support any decision to be taken by the Govt of India."
