PM inaugurates another Sumitomo factory in Egypt to increase car parts export
CAIRO - 21 May 2025: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated Tuesday the SE Wiring Systems Egypt LLC in 10th of Ramadan City.
Madbouly toured the factory that produces electrical wiring harnesses for cars to learn about the various manufacturing stages and was shown a documentary video about Sumitomo's global activities, showcasing the company's various activities, production lines, and investments in Egypt.
Mohamed Hammam, the company's Deputy Managing Director, said the project's total area is 150,000 square meters, and the current production hall area is 12,500 square meters, with a current occupancy rate of 60% of the total area.
A total space of 40% is available for a future expansion, Hammam said, adding that full occupancy will be achieved by 2027. Meanwhile, direct workforce is 2,000 with the target to reach 3,000 by the end of 2025.
For the first time in Sumitomo Egypt's history, all machine installation and preparation work is being carried out 100% by a local team of technicians and engineers. All operators, technicians, and engineers in this area are local, having received certified training from the parent company and demonstrated high skills comparable to operating levels in European factories, Hammam emphasized.
The factory has 170 wire cutting and preparation machines in Egypt, more than any of Sumitomo's factories in Europe, he said, boasting the KOMAX machine, one of the most advanced technologies available in the world, manufactured in Switzerland and distinguished by its precise operation.
All components have been manufactured locally, tested, and passed all calibration stages, demonstrating high efficiency that rivals, and in many cases exceeds the efficiency of parts imported from European manufacturers. This has prompted other companies to consider importing some locally manufactured parts from Egypt, according to Hammam.
The Japanese company contributes to the training of more than 300 dual technical education students in the three governorates where it has factories: Port Said, Giza, and Sharqia.
The factories in Egypt are equipped with an integrated solar energy system to supply part of their operational needs with clean energy, in line with the Egypt's approach to reduce carbon emissions and support Egypt's Vision 2030 to rely on renewable energy sources.
SE Wiring Systems Egypt LLC was established in 2008. It is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems Europe, a subsidiary of Sumitomo International, one of the largest economic entities in the world.
It is also one of the projects established in Egypt under the Special Free Zone system. It operates in the field of manufacturing electrical wiring systems and cables for cars and vehicles of various types. The company provides more than 12,000 job opportunities within its various factories in 6th of October City, 10th of Ramadan City, and Port Said.
The company owns five factories in Port Said and two factories in 6th of October City. The company produces, manufactures, and exports all of its products to the U.K., France, Turkey, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia with annual exports exceeding 300 million euros.
