New mobile resource coming to Kentucky communities in need of healthcare
FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — There are some Kentucky areas with less access to healthcare, but state leaders are working to get help to those who need it. The Kentucky Primary Care Association (KPCA) is an organization with the mission of making sure everyone has access to healthcare. That's made easier by their newly acquired mobile health units. KPCA chief financial officer Rick Grant said this is a momentous moment. This is five of the 12. After today, we only have one more to be delivered by the end of June, so we're excited to be close to the end,' Grant said. These units will be delivered to areas like Warren and Whitley counties, for example, where they'll offer a bunch of services while eliminating the transportation barrier. Ryan Wiggington is the chief financial officer for Fairview Community Health Center in Bowling Green. 'One of the big populations of the underserved community that we have, it's kind of unique to Bowling Green, is the international center that we have in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I think one of the big benefits that we'll have is transportation. That's a big difficulty for them once they relocate to Bowling Green,' Wiggington said. Larry Rector is the CEO of Dayspring Health, serving the Whitley County area. 'We are in Whitley County, which is one of the five poorest counties in Kentucky. For many of the youth in our area, their caregivers don't have the capabilities to take them to the clinic, so we look forward to using this for both primary care vaccinations and dental care in our communities,' Rector said. Anyone with insurance will have it billed, but even those who don't will still get a price worked out based on their income, making sure no one has to miss out on crucial care. 'A lot of our state officials, including Gov. Beshear's office and then Andy Barr, were also instrumental in helping us obtain the funding and protect the funding to make this happen. 117 members of Kenyalang Park Community Association receive angpows

KUCHING (May 19): A total of 117 members of the Kenyalang Park Community Association (KPCA) aged 73 and above were given 'angpows' on Saturday night. The eldest male and female, aged 97 and 95 respectively, received angpows worth RM1,000 each during the 'Respecting the Elderly' dinner hosted by the association at its KPCA Hall here. Its president Penghulu Tan Heng Kee said gifting angpows has been part of the association's annual activities held in appreciation of the contributions from its elderly members. He noted that the number of elderly members had been on the rise, while applications for awards granted for members' children who excelled in public examinations had gradually reduced. 'This goes to show that we are seeing less youth members,' he said. The dinner was officiated by Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, who represented Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian. Heng Kee said it was high time for the association to find ways to attract more young people to join as members, so as to carry on their community services. He said the dinner was an avenue for extending appreciation and respect to the elderly members, who had contributed towards nation-building. According to him, the association has been upholding the tradition of caring for the society and servicing the community since its inauguration in 1977. 'After 48 years, we remain committed in providing community services. What we are enjoying today is the fruit of all the hard work done by the generations before us.' Heng Kee said showing appreciation to parents should not be confined to special occasions but through daily routine such as companionship and caring. He added that the majority of the elderly members needed greetings and companionship the most. He also thanked the association's honorary president Datuk Tan Guek Kee for being the dinner's core sponsor as well as other major sponsors who made the gathering a success. Meanwhile, Wee urged the younger generation to fulfil their filial duty and not to wait till it is too late to do so. 'The love from our parents is selfless and they never ask for anything in return. Regardless of what age we are, parents remain the warmest and most reliable support,' he said. He reminded youngsters that their parents would appreciate companionship, a phone call and even a warm hug.
