Isolated rain, storm chances continue into the weekend
Isolated rain and thunderstorm chances will continue through the weekend across parts of New Mexico. Warmer and drier weather returns statewide by early next week as the winds pick up next Tuesday. It's a less active day of weather Wednesday across New Mexico, but scattered showers and isolated storms have still popped up today in western and northern parts of the state. Temperatures are also warmer across the state today. The rain and storms will end overnight as low temperatures will be warmer across the state tonight as well. Rain and storm chances are higher tomorrow now across nearly all of New Mexico. Scattered showers and storms will first develop across the mountains, then spread south through the afternoon. Rain and storms will eventually make their way into the lower elevations later in the afternoon and evening. This includes the Albuquerque Metro and eastern New Mexico. Rain and storm chances will be lower on Friday as temperatures continue to warm. The best chance will be across the mountains. Saturday will bring a better chance for rain and storms in western and northern New Mexico, but an isolated storm can't be ruled out in the Albuquerque Metro after rain pops up over the Sandias. Drier weather will return for most of the state on Mother's Day, with just an isolated storm chance over the northern mountains. Temperatures will continue their warming trend too with highs above average and generally light winds. Dry weather returns to the entire state on Monday. Winds will also start picking up. Monday will also be the warmest day over the next several days for many across the state. The strongest winds will be next Tuesday afternoon, when westerly winds will gust anywhere from 35 mph to 55 mph. Winds will be lighter, but still breezy on Wednesday with high temperatures back down around average. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Lingering fog & showers around New Mexico but temperatures slowly warming
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Rain activity with high-elevation snow is moving across far-Northeast New Mexico. While westerly winds are slowly drifting the leftover precipitation to the east in front of the last push of moisture moving through the Four Corners with another low pressure system, southeasterly upper-level winds are pushing a few of the individual storms to the northwest. Meanwhile, easterly winds are still bringing in plenty of surface moisture with fog in the high elevations, as well as in parts of the East Highlands. Temperatures are mostly starting off in the 30s and 40s across the region, except for temperatures in the lower 50s in Southeast New Mexico, while many areas to the north are a few degrees above the freezing mark or even below freezing. Forecast Continues Below Slightly-less daytime thunderstorms will form today, but locally some heavy rainfall is still possible with some lightning strikes, small hail, and erratic wind gusts. Temperatures will be higher today but will only reach the upper 30s to the 50s for some northern areas, still below normal for this time of the year, while it will range from the high 50s to the 70s elsewhere, also considerably cooler than normal. Leftover showers and rumbles of thunder with high-elevation snow in the Northern Mountains are in store today with a weaker low pressure system now merging with the departing storm system to the northeast, but conditions will clear out for most tomorrow with warmer air being accompanied by drier air to end of the week, but more precipitation is likely ahead before more-pleasant weather returns on Mother's Day.
