The remark triggered a wave of backlash across Karnataka, with activists accusing Haasan of belittling the state's linguistic heritage. Speaking to ANI, Praveen Shetty said, 'Kamal Haasan has disrespected Kannada. We've informed the management of Victory Cinema that this film cannot be allowed to release here. If Thug Life is screened in Karnataka, the state government must be prepared to take responsibility for any fallout.' Protests erupted across the state in the days following the actor's remarks, culminating in a formal response from the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC). The chamber has imposed a ban on the film's release within the state, standing in solidarity with Kannada organisations demanding an apology from Haasan. The actor also acknowledged that he had faced similar threats in the past, but maintained that he would not bow to political pressure or emotional coercion.

Kamal Haasan 's Kannada row seems to have escalated. An FIR was filed in Bengaluru after the actor's portrait was set on fire. A suo moto FIR under sections BNS US 270 and 283 has been registered by the Basaveshwara Nagar Police after a group of people allegedly set fire to a portrait of the veteran actor. The FIR has reportedly been filed against the members of the Karunada Yuva Sena. One of the accused, identified as Ravi Kumar, has also been taken into custody for further questioning. The unfortunate incident took place on the night of 29th May. 'Won't Apologise If Not Wrong': Kamal Haasan on Kannada Row | Thug Life Film Sparks Controversy In another update, Haasan has refused to apologise after the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) threatened to boycott his film "Thug Life," outraged by his remark on the Kannada language. Addressing the media, outside the DMK party headquarters in Chennai, Haasan said, "It is a democracy. I believe in law and justice. My love for Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala is true. Nobody will suspect it except for those who have an agenda. I've been threatened earlier too, and if I am wrong, I would apologise, if I'm not, I won't." The controversy erupted after Haasan stated that "Kannada was born out of Tamil" during a promotional event for "Thug Life". His remark led to a massive outrage amongst the pro-Kannada groups. Not just that, the KRV activists even teared up the posters of the film in Bengaluru. Additionally, the KRV president, Praveen Shetty filed a complaint at Bengaluru's RM Nagar Police Station, terming Haasan's remark as "unlawful". Clearing the air, Haasan previously stated that his remark on the Kannada language was from a place of love and hence, he would not apologize for something said out of love. Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje on Friday strongly criticised actor Kamal Haasan for his recent comments about the Kannada language, accusing him of making 'a controversial statement' for political gain and to reporters in Karnataka, Karandlaje said Haasan, once a widely admired actor, had now transitioned into politics and was seeking to remain relevant. 'Everyone's value (popularity) will not be the same all the time. Haasan was a big actor and hero at one point. Everyone used to like him,' she he has become a politician. KRV activists stage protest slamming Kamal Haasan for his remarks on Kannada

Members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) staged a demonstration in the city on Friday and slammed actor Kamal Haasan for his remarks on Kannada. The actor's statement that Kannada stemmed from Tamil has hurt the sentiments of people of Karnataka as it was baseless and false, said the KRV. 'The actor's remarks is an affront on the rich culture, history, and legacy of Kannada apart from hurting the self-respect of Kannadigas,' it added. The KRV said that if Kamal Haasan did not withdraw his remarks and offer an apology, protests across Karnataka will be intensified. The activists also called for the boycott of his forthcoming film Thug Life. The KRV leaders said the anger against the actor's statement was palpable across the State, and it has decided that the film would not be allowed for release in Karnataka under any circumstances. The KRV also urged the State government and the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to take steps to ensure that the Kamal Haasan's movie was not released in the State.
