Korea Box Office: ‘Captain America: Brave New World' Debuts at Top Spot

The South Korean box office saw a major shake-up this weekend with the arrival of 'Captain America: Brave New World,' which took a commanding lead in its debut. The Marvel film dominated with a massive market share, pushing holdover 'Hitman 2' down the rankings. 'Captain America: Brave New World' opened with KRW5.91 billion ($4 million), accounting for 62.2% of the total market share. The superhero epic attracted 583,851 viewers in its opening weekend, amassing a cumulative total of $5.5 million, according to Kobis, the tracking service operated by the Korean Film Council. The film declined 42.2% from last weekend and drew 78,241 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to $4.7 million. 'Hitman 2' slid to third place with $461,619, making up 7% of the weekend market. The action-comedy sequel has now grossed $16 million. Anime 'Detective Conan: The 14th Target,' moved up to fourth place with $244,131 and has now grossed $275,110. 'The Substance' continued its steady run in fifth place, earning $145,733 and has grossed $3.2 million. Further down the chart, 'Dark Nuns' was in sixth place with $133,101. The horror-thriller has now accumulated $11 million. Animation 'Elli and Her Monster Team' debuted in seventh place with $95,549, while awards season darling 'The Brutalist' followed in eighth with $109,843. Tarsem Singh's 'The Fall' held steady in ninth with $90,621, bringing its cumulative total to $999,574. Rounding out the top 10, the re-release of '500 Days of Summer' earned $54,975 in its first weekend, bringing its cumulative total to $1.7 million.
