Udhagamandalam: Replicas of a giant-sized lemon, a cocktail glass, a beach cradle, car, an ice cream scoop, a butterfly and a pair of peacocks, among others, all made of different varieties of fruits, literally transported the visitors to Sim's Park in Coonoor in the Nilgiris on Friday to a fairyland. Thousands of people flocked to the Sim's Park on the day to visit the 65th edition of the annual fruit show, which Tamil Nadu chief whip K Ramachandran inaugurated in the presence of the Nilgiris collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru and horticulture joint director Sibila Mary and other officials. The replica of lemon is made of thousands of lemons. According to an official source, at least 3.8 tonnes of various fruits were used to make more than 50 structures that are on display at the park. The source said 13 other districts, including Kanyakumari, Trichy, Karur, Thirupathur and Perambalur, were participating in the show. According to horticulture officials, the four-day show features fruits of temperate, tropical and subtropical regions. Cultural programmes would also be part of the show. "The show is a visual treat," said S Kannan, a tourist from Madurai. Sim's Park also displays more than four lakh flower plants in bloom. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to discuss long-term development plans with professionals

Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to gather strategic insights for Kerala's long-term development, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will hold an interaction with professionals from diverse sectors on Saturday. The session, titled ' Professional Connect 2025 ,' is scheduled from 9:30am to 1pm at the Sankaranarayanan Thampi Hall in the state legislative assembly under the leadership of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), the event aims to facilitate meaningful dialogue with experts in healthcare, education, life sciences, agriculture, IT, industry, finance, infrastructure development and green energy. NILGIRIS: As part of the summer festival, the 20th Rose Show began at the Government Rose Garden in Ooty on Saturday. Chief Whip of Tamil Nadu Assembly K Ramachandran inaugurated the three-day show in the presence of Kumaravel Pandian, Director of Horticulture and Plantation Crops Department, and Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, Nilgiris Collector. The main attraction of the show is a 22-foot-tall pair of dolphins created using 80,000 roses. Likewise, thousands of roses were also used for designing other aquatic creatures such as an Olive Ridley turtle, penguin, dugong, seahorse and starfish. Tourists, especially children, were attracted by the fish daughter, clownfish and pearl oyster displays. Speaking at the inauguration, Ramachandran said the Rose Garden, which was established in 1995 by the Horticulture and Plantation Crops Department as part of the 100th flower show held at the Government Botanical Garden (GBG), has developed into a world-famous Rose park. Initially, 1,919 varieties of 17,526 roses were planted, and now it has gone up to 32,000 roses with 4,301 varieties, including rare ones. 'The 20th-year theme of the rose show is to ensure protection of sea creatures. A total of 7.25 lakh visitors visited last year's rose show,' said Ramachandran, who requested the people to pay a visit to the show, which will conclude on Monday. Ramachandran also said the state government will renovate the walking path in the surroundings of the Ooty Lake and the Kodappamund Channel at a cost of `3 crore, along with restoration of the Bykara Road.

UDHAGAMANDALAM: Tamil Nadu chief whip K Ramachandran inaugurated the twentieth edition of the rose show in the sprawling and scenic Government Rose Garden (GRG) in Ooty on Saturday. The rose show, which is one of the main highlights of the annual summer festivities of Ooty, has always been a crowd puller. Hundreds of visitors from across the country thronged the garden to witness the spectacular 'colour of riots' on the opening day. The theme of the rose show this year is ' Save Aquatic World .' It features a pair of dolphins made of 80,000 roses. There are floral models of an Olive Ridley turtle, a penguin, a starfish and others. More than 120,000 cut roses of various colours were used for making these models. The show will be conducted for three days. However, the display of floral features and cut roses will continue for more than a week.
