Digital displays will be installed at single or multiple locations inside the buses. They show real-time information, including current stop and next stop.'The PIS will provide real-time information to passengers about bus arrival/departure times, routes and stops. This will enhance passenger experience through accurate and timely information. We will also air the various public information released by government authorities through the system,' the official said. The operator is also required to provide technical and on-call support round the clock. Under the system, GPS devices will be fitted on the KSRTC fleet and connected to a central server. A separate tender will be rolled out to install PIS displays at all the main bus stations as well. Hemavathy canal protest: FIR against 3 MLAs, 2 religious heads
TUMAKURU: The Gubbi police have booked three legislators and two religious heads among others for Saturday's protest opposing the Hemavathy Express canal, a pet project of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. FIRs were registered against 11 people, including Turuvekere MLA MT Krishnappa of JDS, Tumakuru Rural MLA B Suresh Gowda and city MLA GB Jyothiganesh, both from BJP. The FIRs mentioned two khavi-wearing persons (religious heads), but did not name them. Some non-bailable charges were also included in the FIRs as one of the police personnel was severely injured. They were charged under Sections 191, 115(2), 121(1), 132, 189(2), 190, 223, 351(2) and 352 of BNS. It's alleged that they gathered unlawfully at the project site at Sunkapura, indulged in rioting, voluntarily caused hurt to the public servant by throwing stones and deterred them from discharging their duties, among others. The protesters had alleged that Shivakumar was diverting the canal to take water to his home district Ramanagara. On Friday, thousands of people protested and blocked the Bengaluru-Shivamogga-Honnavara NH-206 at the project site at Sunkapura in Gubbi taluk. They set tyres on fire besides deflating the tyres of KSRTC buses, creating inconvenience to passengers. Shivakumar claimed that 40% of the work has been completed and the Rs 1,500 crore project cannot be stalled at this stage. It's being implemented after the technical committee submitted its report, Tumakuru district in-charge and Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara claimed. Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna had written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to stop the project, calling it 'unscientific'. Congress MLA from Gubbi ST Srinivas on Sunday said he too will oppose the project. 'I will meet Shivakumar and raise the issue as the project will affect farmers of Tumakuru district,' he told reporters. 'Attempt to murder inspector' In a separate FIR, BJP leader Dilip Kumar and his supporters Rakesh, Koushik and hundreds of others were booked on charges of attempt to murder under Section 109 of BNS. Turuvekere Police Circle Inspector Lohith BN was injured severely in stone throwing. He was shifted to Siddaganga hospital in Tumakuru.

Massive protest in Tumakuru against Dy CM DK Shivakumar's pet water project
TUMAKURU/BENGALURU: Tension prevailed at Sunkapura in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district after a protest against Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's pet project of 'diverting' the Hemavathi river waters from Tumakuru canal to Ramanagara district intensified at the project site on Saturday. The agitators, numbering over 5,000, including farmers, led by BJP MLA B Suresh Gowda, JDS MLA MT Krishnappa, and several religious heads, blocked the road. They set tyres on fire and deflated the tyres of several KSRTC buses on the Bengaluru-Shivamogga highway. The police took hundreds of agitators into custody for violating the prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS. The incident forced Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to intervene and suggest to Tumakuru district in-charge minister Dr G Parameshwara, also the Home Minister, to resolve the issue. Parameshwara later held talks with Shivakumar, who is also the Water Resources Minister, on the sidelines of the DCs and zilla panchayat CEOs meeting in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, the protestors called off the strike setting a deadline of one month to the government to stop the project. Parameshwara, defending the Hemavati Express Link Canal as it is being built based on a report given by the technical committee, said BJP's protest was politically motivated. 'It was decided to build the canal at a cost of Rs 1,500 crore. As the work started, BJP opposed it. Shivakumar later held a meeting that was attended by the MPs and MLAs concerned. They demanded that a technical committee be formed and based on its report, the work was being carried out. If the report had said the link canal would cause problems, it would not have been taken up. BJP is opposing it for political reasons,' he said.

Bengaluru police crack woman's murder, arrest relative and friend
The Bengaluru police Thursday claimed to have solved the murder case of a 50-year-old woman, and arrested her relative and his friend in connection with the crime earlier this week. According to the Cottonpet police, the suspects have been identified as Purandar, 42, a relative of the victim, and his friend Shivappa, 35, both from Karnataka's Bidar district. They worked as electricians at a private pharmaceutical company in Bidar. The police said the men allegedly killed Latha, and robbed her house after losing money in a scam. 'Initial investigation suggests they lost money in a rice-pulling scam and were in desperate need of funds,' a senior police officer said. On May 26, the two men arrived at Latha's residence on P S Lane, Cottonpet. As Purandar had visited occasionally, she welcomed them and served them breakfast. Investigators believe the men strangled Latha, as no weapons were found at the scene, suggesting the murder may not have been pre-planned. After committing the crime, the suspects fled with approximately 100 gram of gold and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash. The police said the men had arrived in Bengaluru in the morning by a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus from Bidar, and went directly to Latha's home. Latha's husband, Prakash S Mehtre (55), who owns an apparel store in Upparpet, discovered her body near the kitchen around 2 pm. The couple, originally from Bidar, had lived in Bengaluru for over 10 years. They have two children — a daughter employed in the private sector, and a son in high school.
