Mangaluru youth dies after KSRTC bus rams scooter on Bengaluru–Mangaluru national highway

MANGALURU: A scooter rider died after being hit by a KSRTC bus late on Sunday evening. The deceased has been identified as Alister D'Souza, 24.
According to the police, the complainant, after attending a housewarming event, was returning home on a motorcycle with a friend as a pillion rider, while his friend D'Souza was riding a scooter.
At around 10:30 PM, they began their journey back home. While following Alister D'Souza, and at approximately 11:00 PM, as they were passing near the Tea Time Hotel in Nehru Nagar, Panemangalore village—on the left side of the Bengaluru–Mangaluru National Highway—a KSRTC Ambaari bus, driven by Shivayya Hiremath, approached from the opposite direction, traveling from BC Road towards Kalladka.
The bus driver, accused of reckless and negligent driving, reportedly overtook a Tempo Traveller that was ahead of him and veered to the extreme right side of the road, crashing into the scooter ridden by D'Souza.
Due to the impact, D'Souza was thrown off the scooter and hit the concrete road, sustaining severe injuries.
He was taken to Bantwal Government Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead. The Bantwal Traffic Police are investigating the incident.
