They assembled at the Dufferin Clock Tower opposite the Devaraja Market and offered condolences to the affected families.
Addressing the gathering, State Backward Classes Forum president KS Shivaram condemned the brutal killing of innocent tourists and criticised the Union govt, accusing it of intelligence failure and failing to ensure adequate security arrangements at the tourist spots in Jammu and Kashmir.
"As terrorist activities increase during the BJP regime in the hill state, the Union govt must take all precautions to prevent such incidents," he demanded.
He accused the Union govt and BJP leaders of politicising the terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives. He also sought the Union govt to apologise to the people of the nation for its
security lapses
, besides ensuring safety measures for tourists visiting the hill state, as more than one crore tourists visit the state every year.
Former mayor Arif Hussein said the Union govt must act tough to end cross-border terrorism and stop terrorist infiltration to prevent such incidents.
