Veteran scribe K Vikram Rao cremated
The mortal remains of the veteran journalist and president of the Indian Federation of Working Journalists, K Vikram Rao, were consigned to the flames with state honours at Bhainsakund Cremation Ground in Lucknow on Tuesday, a day after he passed away. He was 87. Bihar's governor, Arif Mohammad Khan, dignitaries, politicians, state government officers, colleagues, family and friends paid their last respects to Rao before the cremation. Earlier, Rao's body was placed at the UP Press Club for people to pay tributes where his wife, Sudha Rao, daughter Vinita Rao, and the younger son Vishwa Dev Rao were present. Sudev Rao, the elder son of K Vikram Rao lit the funeral pyre at the cremation ground. UP Working Journalists' Union president Haseeb Siddiqui, UP Press Club president Ravindra Kumar Singh, UP Working Journalists' Union's Lucknow Division president Shiv Sharan Singh, UP Accredited Journalists' Committee secretary Bharat Singh paid tributes on the behalf of various journalist organisations. Apart from his long career as a journalist, columnist, K Vikram Rao had been a prominent voice for press freedom, better wages and working conditions for working journalists. He had been the bureau chief of an English daily in nine different states and also worked in the South Asia bureau of an American media house. He wrote many books. Rao had also served as a member of the Indian Press Council for six years. He had also been in five different jails in the country totalling 13 months during the Emergency in the country. Among those who expressed condolences on Tuesday were UP Governor Anandiben Patel, Union ministers Pankaj Chaudhary, Jitin Prasada, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh deputy CM Rajendra Shukla, Madhya Pradesh BJP president VD Sharma, UP ministers Suresh Khanna, Nand Gopal Nandi and Nitin Agrawal. Trade union leader Umashankar Mishra, Vidhan Parishad member Pawan Singh Chauhan, former minister Rajendra Chaudhary, Samajwadi Party state president Shyamlal Pal, Samajwadi Party backward cell coordinator Rajpal Kashyap, UP BJP media in-charge Manish Dixit, UP Kshatriya Samanvaya Samiti coordinator Pradeep Singh Babbu, Apna Dal spokesperson Sanjeev Singh Rathore, NCP leader Siraj Mehndi, Insram Ali, journalists Punya Prasun Joshi, Ram Dutt Tripathi, Hemant Sharma, Amitabh Agnihotri, Awadhesh Kumar, MLA Shalabh Mani Tripati, RLD leader Anil Dubey, Vidhan Parishad member Mahendra Singh, former union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, and BJP spokesperson SN Singh were also among those who paid their tributes.

Veteran journalist K Vikram Rao no more; Rajnath, Yogi, others express grief
Veteran journalist and national president of Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ), K Vikram Rao, passed away at a private hospital in Lucknow on Monday morning. Rao, 87, had been suffering from respiratory problems for some time. His mortal remains will be kept at the UP Press Club for the people to pay their last respect to the departed soul. His last rites will be performed at Bhainsakund cremation ground here at 10 am on Tuesday. Defence minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh in a post on X wrote: 'Saddened by the demise of Dr. K. Vikram Rao, a veteran journalist who served as the National President of the Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ). He was a prolific writer and an insightful commentator who made noteworthy contribution to Indian journalism. My condolences to his bereaved family. Om Shanti!'. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, his Uttarakhand counterpart Pushkar Singh Dhami, UP Vidhan Sabha speaker Satish Mahana, former U.P. governor Ram Naik, U.P. deputy CM KP Maurya, U.P. minister Swatantra Dev Singh, state BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary, Samajwadi Party leaders Shivpal Yadav and Arvind Singh 'Gope' have also express their grief over Rao's demise. Senior journalist and former secretary of IFWJ Ram Dutt Tripathi said K Vikram Rao was a journalist of exceptional organisational and writing skills and his passing is a significant loss to the journalistic community. Rao had been the bureau chief of an English daily in nine different states and also worked in the South Asia bureau of an American media house. He authored several books. He also served as a member of Indian Press Council for six year. Rao was sent to five different jails of the country where he spent a total 13 months there during the Emergency. Rao is survived by his wife Sudha Rao, two sons—Sudev Rao and Vishwa Dev Rao—and a daughter Vinita Rao.

Tributes pour in as veteran journalist K Vikram Rao passes away at 87
Lucknow: Tributes poured in from political leaders and media fraternity after the demise of veteran journalist K Vikram Rao , who passed away at the age of 87, on Monday morning. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his Uttarakhand counterpart Pushkar Singh Dhami, former UP Governor Ram Naik, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, minister Swatantra Dev Singh, BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, SP's senior functionary Shivpal Singh Yadav, Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, and former minister Arvind Singh Gope expressed grief over Rao's demise. "The demise of senior journalist and National President of Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ), K Vikram Rao, is a profound loss to the world of journalism. I offer my humble tribute. My condolences are with the grieving family. I pray to Shri Ram to grant the departed soul a place at His feet and to give the bereaved family the strength to endure this immense sorrow. Om Shanti," CM Yogi Adityanath posted on X. Born on May 29, 1938, in New Delhi, Rao served as the bureau chief for The Times of India in nine states, including UP, and worked for 15 years at the Voice of America's South Asia Bureau. He also authored several books.
