Violent storm hits Wichita golf course set to host Korn Terry Tour event this week

Violent storm hits Wichita golf course set to host Korn Terry Tour event this week Mother Nature was a nuisance all weekend at the U.S. Open in Oakmont, but a much more dangerous version struck a different golf event early Tuesday morning. A violent storm seems to have significantly damaged Crestview Country Club and much of the Korn Ferry Tour's infrastructure set up for the 2025 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open, which is scheduled to begin Thursday. The storm system — which produced winds stronger than 100mph — knocked down trees and caused widespread power outages across Wichita and the surrounding area, according to KWCH in Kansas. Crestview Country Club has hosted this event every year since 2001. Tom Lehman won the inaugural Wichita Open in 1990, and the tournament has served as a launching pad for several stellar PGA Tour careers, with other past champions like David Duval (1993), Jason Dufner (2001) and Scott Piercy (2008). Taylor Dickson won the 2024 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open.

It shows a pickup truck with a smashed hood and cab. 'Looking at the vehicle, it's clear—this young man is incredibly lucky to be alive,' they said. 'This mother doesn't have to remember this day as the day she lost her child year after year.' The sheriff's office stated it will pursue charges related to the crash. 'We will also be holding the adults responsible for hosting and allowing underage drinking to occur on their property,' the sheriff's office said. They also asked young people to think twice before drinking and driving. 'Once you choose to drive under the influence, that mistake becomes dangerous for everyone on the road,' the sheriff's office said. Deputies urged teens who had been drinking to call them or their parents to pick them up. [SIGN UP: WHIO-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

Wichita Mayor in Spat with Local Journalists Over Whether She ‘Refused' to Sign Proclamation or Just Didn't Vote for It

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu is accusing three local TV stations along with a newspaper of misreporting whether or not she refused to vote for a city ordinance about Transgender Day of Visibility. Wu is a former local TV reporter who left Wichita CBS affiliate KWCH in 2023 order to run for mayor. The claims seem to center around, to paraphrase Bill Clinton, what the definition of 'is' is, whether Wu refused to sign a the proclamation or just didn't vote for it. On Thursday, Wu said the Wichita Eagle, along with KSN, KWCH and KAKE News, all "repeatedly misreported" that she refused or declined to sign the proclamation recognizing Transgender Day of Visibility on March 18. "I'd like to ask each of them [news outlets] to cite their source," Wu said. "Let me repeat: while I did not vote for this proclamation, I also did not ask for my signature to be removed. City staff has determined this was a clerical error, and they have implemented a new internal process for proclamations so this does not occur in the future." 'All proclamations are electronically signed and added by staff,' Wu said last week. 'I did not print the document. I did not ask for my signature to be removed. I did not vote for this proclamation, which was the first time Wichita has ever segregated the transgender community.' 'Let me be clear, I believe in individual liberty and personal responsibility," said Wu. "How you choose to live your life is none of my business. Please don't expect me to cheerlead for it."
