Kochi: A habitual offender was moved to preventive detention under Kerala Anti-social Activities (Prevention) Act (Kaapa). The action was initiated against Sreeraj, 28, of Mulavukad. He was moved to preventive detention by the order of the district collector. Police said he was an accused in 13 cases across various stations in the district, including assault, Pocso and crimes against women. Due to his continuous involvement in criminal activities and persistent disruption of public peace, the district collector issued a preventive detention order based on a report from the deputy commissioner of police, Kochi city. The accused was previously exiled from the city under Kaapa. He was recently arrested by Mulavukad police for violating the order. Thiruvananthapuram: Thumba police invoked Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act-3 (Kaapa-3) against two more gangsters on Monday. With this, the total number of Kaapa-3 cases invoked against gangsters in Thumba police station limits became six so far this year, and Kaapa-15 has been invoked against one person. The new Kaapa cases were registered against Binoy Albert, 33, alias Jojo, of Manakkattuvilakam at Sudheesh Nagar, Pallithura, and Shiju, 30, alias Mudiyan Shiju, of Velimala Veedu near Kalamukkanpara at Attipra. Shiju was close to notorious gangster Airport Dani, who was accused of forcing a youth to kiss his foot, and was also involved in several criminal cases. Shiju was involved in several NDPS cases in Kottayam and Ernakulam districts too. Albert was involved in four attempted murder cases registered at Balaramapuram, Vizhinjam and Thumba police stations. The goons have been restricted from entering the city for six months and from involving themselves in any other criminal activities. If they violate these conditions, Kaapa-15 will be invoked against them and they will be imprisoned for one year. For invoking Kaapa-15, district collector's permission is needed. Kaapa-15 was invoked against Dani Rechans, and KAAPA-3 was registered against Vava Krishna, Rajan Netto, Parunthu Sajan and Nikesh Lal. However, the number of arrests under Kaapa came down in 2024 compared to the previous year. District collector approved only 39 of the total 83 proposals (46%) sent by the DCP in 2024. In 2023, the collector approved the arrest of 52 criminals (78%) when 66 Kaapa proposals were sent.

Thiruvananthapuram: Nemom police will soon submit a proposal to the city police commissioner to imprison a 21-year-old Melarannoor native under Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (Kaapa) for engaging in criminal activities despite previous restrictions. The proposal will later f be orwarded to the district collector for approval. Police identified the accused as Vishak Vijayan of Pandaravilakam House near Melarannoor. In March this year, police had evoked Kaapa against him and he was restricted from entering Thiruvananthapuram city and engaging in any criminal activities. The restriction was imposed due to his involvement in several criminal cases. However, the accused again got involved in several cases, including an attempted murder case registered at Malayinkeezhu police station, violating the earlier order. In view of this, a new FIR was registered under sections 19 and 15 (4) against Vishak for violating Kaapa. Police said Vishak was involved in as many as eight criminal cases and was absconding.

Kochi: Police arrested two men, on separate occasions, for allegedly violating restrictions imposed on them under Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (Kaapa).Fort Kochi police on Tuesday arrested a 28-year-old for violating an order prohibiting him from entering the city police limits. The arrested person, identified as Althaf alias Pollachi Appu, was externed under Kaapa for his involvement in multiple criminal cases. He was produced in court and remanded in judicial another incident, a 24-year-old man was arrested by police for allegedly violating an order issued against him under Kaapa. The arrested person was identified as Alister Xavier of Mulavukad. Based on a report filed by Mulavukad police, he was externed under Kaapa by city police commissioner on Nov 15, order required him to appear before the Ernakulam central assistant police commissioner every Saturday at 11:00am for a year and prohibited him from engaging in any criminal activities during this period. However, violating the order, he got involved in a crime registered at Mulavukad police station. Subsequently, a team led by Mulavukad police station SHO Shyamkumar VS and SI Thomas KX arrested him and presented him in court, which remanded him to Ernakulam sub-jail.

Kochi: Ernakulam Rural police invoked the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (Kaapa) against a person accused of smuggling spirit. The Act was invoked against Viju, 52, from Chendamangalam. He has been banned from entering the police station limits for six order was issued by Ernakulam Range DIG Satheesh Bino based on a report by rural district police chief M Hemalatha. There were also cases registered against him at various police station limits, including cannabis trafficking . Kaapa was invoked following his involvement in a spirit case registered by Palakkad Town South police in Dec held for sand smuggling: Police on Tuesday arrested two people for sand smuggling from the Periyar River. Police identified the arrested persons as Rishad, 35, and Riyas Bava, 37, from Aluva Thuruth. They were taken into custody while transporting sand in a vehicle from the riverbank near Thuruth. The sand was being taken towards Kayamkulam, said police. They were apprehended by the rural district anti-narcotics special action force team. The operation was based on a tip-off received by district police chief M Hemalatha.
