‘Mouth-watering' chocolate brand that disappeared from supermarkets is back
The big UK supermarkets aren't exactly short of options when it comes to chocolate, with own-brand bars and treats, as well as products by big names like Cadbury, Tony's and Nestlé. But there's one brand that's been notably missing from the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury's for the last five years as it swapped supermarket shelves for luxury retailers, and that's GODIVA. Founded in Brussels in 1926, the chocolate brand began with pralines and the business is named after the legend of Lady Godiva. It's been sold in the UK for years in high-end stores like Harrods and Selfridges and even has its own flagship store in Covent Garden, but the chocolates haven't been widely available in supermarkets. GODIVA's first foray into supermarkets came in 2017, when the brand partnered with Sainsbury's to sell its Belgian chocolates, but it disappeared from shelves there in 2020. However, that's all about to change as the 100-year-old brand is making a supermarket comeback and has just launched its version of the viral Dubai chocolate bar in Tesco. But, of course, there's a catch. The chocolate treat – a Pistacho & Kadayif bar which sees GODIVA milk chocolate wrapped around crunchy pistachios and crispy Kadayif pastry pieces – is only available at Tesco for a limited time. And when we say limited, we aren't joking. Shoppers now have just over a week to get their hands on it at their local supermarket, as it'll only be sold there until June 17. What's more, the premium bar doesn't come cheap with an RRP of £10, though those with a Clubcard will be able to save a little, getting it for £7.95. According to GODIVA, this new bar is a reimagined and more accessible version of their usual Dubai-style chocolate bar, which is sold in Harrods for £24.95. Speaking about the launch, Isabella Rogers, chief marketing officer at GODIVA, said: 'Inspired by the viral Dubai-style chocolate trend, our new GODIVA Crispy Kadayif & Pistachio Chocolate offers an effortless way for more people to experience our premium take on this indulgent sensation for a limited time only on the high street. 'From the signature GODIVA milk chocolate couverture to the delicate crunch of pistachios and crisp golden Kadayif, it's a true feast for the senses – designed for those who may not make it to our Covent Garden boutique but still want a taste of luxury.' The brand has a strong fan base, with reviewers on Yelp hailing it as 'expensive but well worth it', 'the finest chocolates to be had in the capital', 'mouth-watering' and 'the best chocolate in London' and 'delicious' in numerous four and five star posts about the Covent Garden chocolate shop. This comes after a number of other chocolate brands recently shared exciting news, including Cadbury. The iconic brand has unveiled brand new Dairy Milk bars for summer, with one new flavour plus fun colour-changing packaging. There's an Iced Latte Dairy Milk chocolate bar, which combines smooth coffee cream, biscuit pieces and the classic taste of Cadbury chocolate and four temperature-activated packets, which visually transform when the chocolate is chilled. Yes, that's right, in a somewhat unexpected move, Cadbury is actively encouraging people to put their chocolate bars in the fridge. More Trending The new cold-activated packs will look like ordinary purple Dairy Milk bars – until they are popped in the fridge. Using thermochromic technology, the temperature change will reveal one of four vibrant summer-themed designs as the wrapper changes colour to reveal a deep blue image. Elsewhere, Mars Wrigley, has just confirmed that the 'best' Maltesers are making a comeback after 11 years. (That's the white chocolate version, in case you didn't know.) First launched in 2003, White Chocolate Maltesers were a fan-favourite before being discontinued in 2014 and people have spent more than a decade begging for them to return. View More » White Chocolate Maltesers will be available in treat bags, single bag and sharing bag formats from June 16. You'll be able to find them in major supermarkets along with independent retailers too, so you won't have to go far to get your fix. Do you have a story to share? ‘Absolutely perfect': Viral choccy lands in Aus
Don't miss out on the headlines from Eat. Followed categories will be added to My News. A household name chocolate brand has finally released its own version of a viral sweet treat in Australia – and foodie influencers have weighed in. Lindt released its Dubai Style Chocolate this week, a tribute to the beloved recipe created by Fix Dessert Chocolatier Sarah Hamouda. Ms Hamouda initially created the indulgent treat, which features a large milk chocolate shell with pistachio cream and shredded Kadayif pastry inside, in 2021. But it wasn't until a social media post two years later that it went viral. X Lindt's version, which is sold only in its stores, features 45 per cent pistachio filling, Kadayif pastry, nut brittle and milk chocolate. It retails for $20. It's nowhere near as chunky as the version popularised by Ms Hamouda's recipe. Popular food content creator Nectorious Papi was one of the first to try it, saying for him it was perfect because of how thin it is. Picture: TikTok/@nectoriouspapi TikTok creator @forevavictoria said she went to the shop first thing as she anticipated a long line up for the sweet treat. Picture: Birkenhead Point/TikTok 'It's not as thick as the other ones you've been seeing online,' he told his followers. 'It's the perfect balance between the milk chocolate and the pistachio, because I feel like the other ones can be a little bit sickening. This one is absolutely perfect.' TikTok creator @forevavictoria said she went to her local Lindt store first thing as she anticipated a long line up for the sweet treat. After digging in, she said it didn't really taste how she thought it would. 'The fact that I was craving this for so long and I feel like it doesn't taste how I imagined it to taste,' she told her followers. 'It's a bit disappointing. It's not bad but I wouldn't buy it again for $20.' X Last month, a report revealed pistachio kernel prices surged from $12 a pound (almost half a kilo) a year ago to around $16 a pound, according to Giles Hacking of global nut trader CG Hacking. 'The pistachio world is basically tapped out at the moment,' he told the Financial Times. Thankfully, while many countries have been affected by the shortage, Australian supply has largely remained unaffected. Coles said it had a 'great supply of pistachios available' to cope with the growing demand from customers. 'We have seen a noticeable trend in customers seeking pistachio-flavoured food items, and we are committed to offering a wide range of products in this flavour for everyone to enjoy,' a spokesperson told Woolworths also said it had been unaffected by the shortage. Waitrose is limiting this Dubai-style chocolate because the demand is so high
The latest food trend to sweep TikTok, Dubai-style chocolate bars, is flying off supermarket shelves. So much so, that Waitrose has imposed a two bar limit on shoppers. For the uninitiated, the £10 Lindt bars in question are inspired by a viral Middle Eastern dessert, blending melting milk chocolate with a pistachio paste and crunchy Kadayif filling. The sweet treat is a nod to the traditional dessert Knafeh, which is made with spun pastry dough, layered with cheese, soaked in a sweet, sugar-based syrup and garnished with pistachios. The OG Dubai-style chocolate was created in 2021 by FIX Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and was named "Can't Get Knafeh Of It'. Luckily, it lived up to its name with the chocolate going viral and inspiring myriad brands and supermarkets to launch their own takes here in the UK. When Lindt got in on the action earlier this year, the chocolate bar promptly sold out in most shops. Now that it's been restocked, Waitrose are countering demand by only allowing shoppers to indulge in two bars per person. So, wondering what the hype is all about? Here's everything you need to know. Lindt's Dubai chocolate is made with an indulgent melting milk chocolate. But the main attraction is the pistachio paste and Kadayif filling. The combination of these ingredients is said to create a delicious crunch with each bite, while the bar-style serve is perfect for sharing (if you restrain from eating the entire thing yourself). The creamy chocolate filling is to be expected from Lindt, but the crispy texture and pistachio taste set it apart from your average bar. The Dubai-style chocolate has racked up more than 200,000 views on TikTok, with foodies reviewing the taste. Having launched in Waitrose on 31 March, the chocolate is already sold out online, but you can find it in your local store now.

Two-bar limit on customers buying Dubai-style chocolate due to soaring demand
Listen to article British supermarket chain Waitrose has introduced a two-bar purchase limit on the increasingly popular Dubai-style chocolate bars, following overwhelming demand from customers. The new rule was implemented after the indulgent chocolate, made with milk chocolate, 45% pistachio, and crunchy Kadayif pastry, caused a stir in the UK market. First launched in December 2024, the Lindt chocolate bar has quickly become a favourite following its viral popularity on social media, with fans praising its taste and texture. The chocolate's success is partly attributed to influencer campaigns on platforms like TikTok, where videos showcasing the product garnered significant attention, leading to skyrocketing sales. Waitrose, which added the chocolate bar to its shelves on March 23, said the decision to limit purchases was made to ensure as many customers as possible could enjoy the treat. "No more than two bars per person please… because we want everyone to have the chance to enjoy this delicious chocolate," read a sign posted at the store. Lindt has introduced a Dubai style chocolate bar inspired by the viral craze The retailer added that stock levels of the £10 chocolate bars are expected to be replenished on March 31, but advised customers to act quickly as the bars were flying off the shelves. Lindt, the Swiss chocolate brand behind the product, also confirmed that they had been replenishing stock in stores across the UK, including in Waitrose, Sainsbury's, and Ocado, following the initial sell-out success of the product. In addition to the two-bar limit, the brand has expanded its offerings with a new Dubai-style chocolate praline box and a smaller 40-gram bar exclusively available in London's newly opened Lindt Piccadilly store. The Dubai-style chocolate trend follows a broader shift in the UK's growing appetite for indulgent, innovative flavours. The combination of pistachio and Kadayif pastry, a traditional Middle Eastern treat, has resonated with chocolate lovers, particularly those seeking new and exciting varieties. With Waitrose's purchase limits, it remains clear that the Dubai-style chocolate craze is unlikely to die down soon.
