Noah Kahan closes BottleRock with a fall, an apology and a show-stopping encore
Self-deprecation can quickly become a well-worn routine, but for Noah Kahan, it's an art form. When the folk-pop sensation took the JaM Cellars Stage on Sunday, May 25, for his BottleRock Napa Valley debut — on the final night of the three-day music festival — with braided hair and a ragged floral shirt, he commented that his outfit 'probably costs less than one glass of wine here.' Then, after delivering a mandolin-backed rendition of 'All of My Love,' Kahan appeared truly stunned by the applause. 'I can't believe you guys are all here for me,' he said. 'I feel like some mistake has been made. I'm incredibly honored to be headlining a festival like this.' Later in the set, a minor stumble onstage during a lively version of 'New Perspectives' left him momentarily crestfallen. Yet, the moment only endeared him to the crowd. 'Please post that clip on social media and add to my misery,' he quipped. Despite his ongoing self-doubt, the 28-year-old Vermont singer-songwriter, who gained widespread fame after his 2022 album 'Stick Season,' had the audience listening with hushed reverence. His concert, which included favorites like 'Northern Attitude' and 'She Calls Me Back' felt remarkably intimate, even amidst the mass of diverse festivalgoers. Kahan's excitement to be back on stage after a year-long break was palpable. 'I haven't played a show in so long, so this is so f—ng cool,' he said. The emotionally charged performance offered a mix of songs about heartbreak and mental health, all buoyed by Kahan's infectious spirit. Among the highlights was 'The Great Divide,' an unreleased track from his upcoming album that immediately had the crowd singing along. Kahan also poked fun at the luxurious Wine Country festival's indulgent atmosphere, turning his attention to the VIP section. 'Congrats on the money,' he said with a grin. After a euphoric rendition of 'Dial Drunk,' Kahan seemed to fully embrace the spirit of BottleRock. 'I'll die for you, Napa,' he declared. 'I almost did earlier,' he added, referencing his earlier fall. As the set continued, Kahan's characteristic self-awareness persisted. 'Is this the last show of the weekend?' he asked, looking alarmed. 'Talk about leaving on a sad note. Sorry.' But the night wasn't over. Kahan closed out the three-day festival with a cathartic, all-hands-on-deck performance of his biggest hit, 'Stick Season,' leaving the crowd on a high note. 'If I ever do headline another one of these festivals again, I hope it will be this one,' Kahan said, his voice thick with gratitude. 'We love you, BottleRock. I'd stay out here forever if I could.' Still, there were plenty of other musical high points on BottleRock's final day. Robby Krieger of The Doors performed two hours of faithful covers of songs by his former band, while Cage the Elephant's energetic set on the Verizon Stage kept fans on their toes. Earlier, 18-year-old rock sensation Grace Bowers commanded the main stage, and jam band Goose delivered their signature feel-good vibes. Meanwhile, Khruangbin offered their signature, spacey instrumental explorations, creating an eclectic sonic landscape. On the Williams Sonoma Culinary Stage, BottleRock's signature blend of music and food continued to shine, with celebrity cooking demonstrations from San Francisco 49ers stars George Kittle and Kyle Juszczyk, MLB Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. and Howard Stern show's Gary 'Baba Booey' Dell'Abate, alongside renowned chefs like Bobby Flay, Kristen Kish and Joshua Weissman.

Ed Sheeran Sings Unreleased Song ‘Old Phone' & ‘Stick Season' With Noah Kahan at Nashville Pub
Noah Kahan has long joked that he's the 'Jewish Ed Sheeran.' And this week, the two singer-songwriters finally got together, playing a set of acoustic songs — including one of the British pop star's unreleased tracks titled 'Old Phone' — in a Nashville pub. In one video posted to Instagram by the 'Shape of You' singer Tuesday (April 22), he and the Vermont native sit across from each other on the intimate barroom floor of Santa's Pub in Tennessee's capital, both of them wielding acoustic guitars. Smiling, Sheeran and Kahan belt out the chorus to the latter's breakthrough 2022 smash 'Stick Season.' 'And it's half my fault, but I just like to play the victim/ I'll drink alcohol 'til my friends come home for Christmas.' 'Shut down @santaspub in Nashville to do dueling songs with @noahkahanmusic,' Sheeran captioned the performance. 'What a night.' According to other clips posted by guests in attendance, the pair also sang 'All My Love' and 'Dial Drunk' from Kahan's Billboard 200 No. 2 album Stick Season. Sheeran also enlisted the folk singer to perform the unreleased 'Old Phone,' remarking, 'I recorded this song, I was like, 'I think it kind of sounds like a Noah Kahan song … this is a like a full-circle moment for me.' 'That's f–king mind-blowing,' Kahan quipped. 'Conversations with my dead friends/ Messages from all my exes,' Sheeran then sang on the track, which he previously performed on The Tonight Show ahead of its May 2 release, as Kahan joined him on guitar. 'I kinda think that this was best left/ There, in the past, where it belongs.' The performance marks just the latest pub pop-up the 'Perfect' musician has hosted ahead of his upcoming album, Play, with Sheeran also making headlines for his surprise mini concerts at other bars in Boston and Nashville this year. On that note, Sheeran also built a fully functional bar called the Old Phone Pub in Ipswich, Mass., to promote his new song 'Azizam,' which debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April. Shortly afterward, he reconstructed the pop-up at Coachella, where he sang duets with Shaboozey and Alex Warren in addition to performing on the Mojave stage at the festival. Study: Listening to Noah Kahan helps British drivers keep their eyes on the road
A non-scientific study of licensed drivers in Great Britain found they were most focused and alert on the road when listening to 'the heartfelt storytelling and mellow instrumentals' of Vermont singer/songwriter Noah Kahan. AutoTrader, a car-leasing company in Manchester, U.K., asked 200 drivers to listen to a playlist of trending artists while taking a standard UK 'hazard perception' test, which records reaction times to various stimuli. The results of the tests were averaged to determine which artists seem to help drivers identify and react to hazards more quickly. Kahan, a native of Strafford, had an average hazard perception score of 56.1 out of a possible 75 points. Doechii and Sabrina Carpenter were also found to help drivers stay on task, followed by Teddy Swims and Charli round out the top 5. 'Vermont native Noah Kahan is the artist who improved driving hazard perception reaction times the quickest,' the study concluded. 'His steady rhythms and reflective lyrics seem to create an ideal atmosphere for staying alert on the road.' Kahan's music is popular in the UK. The title song from 'Stick Season' climbed to #1 on the British charts in late 2023, and stayed there for seven weeks. In December 2024, 'Stick Season' was judged the UK's biggest song of 2024. Kahan has stayed close to his roots. In 2023, as 'Stick Season' rose up the charts around the world, he dedicated a sold out show at the famed Red Rocks to flood relief, donating proceeds from a special 'I Love Vermont' t-shirt bundle to the VT Flood Response & Recovery Fund. 'From the scenery that inspired the record to the people in Strafford and beyond that have rooted me on, this state and this achievement are intertwined,' he said on X. Noah Kahan's 'Georgia on My Mind' cover for ESPN's 2025 Masters coverage is good, actually
Once again, the internet is unnecessarily mad about something totally benign. To advertise for coverage of the 2025 Masters, ESPN is using a cover of Ray Charles' "Georgia on My Mind" by beloved folk rocker Noah Kahan. The brief sample of Kahan's cover sounds pretty great at first listen, as the "Stick Season" artist was an inspired choice to bring the song to life for a new audience. It's definitely an unexpected change-up, but a good one. Well, some fans on social media weren't nearly as kind to Kahan's cover, and they let their voices be known in the comments to ESPN's video promotion. We'll let you parse through a few unhappy customers below. ESPN launches its annual @TheMasters 'Georgia On My Mind' campaign 🎶Featured in 2025, 2x GRAMMY nominated singer-songwriter @NoahKahanCoverage begins April 9 with the Masters Par 3 Contest⛳️ Noon ET, ESPN+ & @DisneyPlus | 2p ET, ESPN🔗 | @ESPNMusic — ESPN PR (@ESPNPR) March 24, 2025 I don't dislike Noah Kahan… but I had to fix this for them — Jon Tweets Sports (@jontweetssports) March 25, 2025 there's a lot of people dunking on this because it stinks I just wanted to add my voice and agree that it stinks — Grant McGalliard (@grantmcgalliard) March 25, 2025 This cover stinks, baby — Nick White (@Nick_White11) March 26, 2025 Love Noah, but this ain't it at all — Aodhán Doyle (@AodhanDoyle) March 25, 2025 'Georgia On My Mind' by Ray Charles is the only version that should ever be recognized — Ryan Hile (@Ryan_Hile) March 25, 2025 Okay, there are more comments like the ones above, and people are certainly entitled to their opinions. Switching up on traditions historically never goes well, as people are quite hesitant to change in spaces they find comfort. However, Kahan is a tremendously talented artist who does Charles' iconic song justice, even with this ad snippet. Kahan hailing from Vermont doesn't mean he can't cover "Georgia on My Mind" for an ESPN Masters promotion. After all, the South is a wonderful melting pot of people and experiences, and Kahan lived in Nashville for a time. He summed up beautifully the appeal of spending time in Music City. "I feel like it's really Nashville that's the only place I've ever felt truly at home," Kahan told The Tennessean in 2023. "I've been in a lot of places, but a lot of them I felt like an outsider. Nashville is one place that I felt like I belonged and I really love it there." That's what The Masters is about, isn't it? People from all over gather to Augusta to celebrate an event that feels just like home. Picking Kahan for such a cover feels just right in that context. However, getting mad on the internet about things like this is a pastime, and people are well within their right to dunk on this cover if they wish. However, we'll give Kahan's rendition a hole-in-one, and we'll enjoy listening to the full version whenever it's released. Maybe it'll grow on its detractors over time? Masters golf ad prompts outrage over Noah Kahan's 'Georgia on My Mind' cover: Here's why
Masters golf ad prompts outrage over Noah Kahan's 'Georgia on My Mind' cover: Here's why A new ESPN promotional video for the 2025 Masters meant to boost excitement for the golf tournament has instead created outrage over its music choice. While the Ray Charles classic tune "Georgia on My Mind" has been used for the annual ad campaign for six years straight, ESPN has now opted to use a cover of the song by New England singer Noah Kahan. "From today until the day we pull into the gates of Augusta National. Promise Georgia will be on my mind," Kahan, 28, told ESPN in a behind-the-scenes video on the cover creation. Noah Kahan before the celebrity game ahead of the 2025 NBA All Star Game in Oakland, California on Feb 14, 2025. However, the response has been anything but positive with many people, including some Kahan fans, frustrated by ESPN's decision not to use Charles' 1960 version. Advertisement "I am speaking as someone who really enjoys Noah Kahan's music when I say this. This edit blows. Please delete it from existence," one X user wrote. People frustrated by Kahan's lack of southern roots ESPN Vice President of Live Sports and Audience Expansion Rachel Epstein said decision to use a Kahan cover this year stemmed from a plan to attract younger viewers to the golf tournament, according to Marketing Brew. "We're always going to be fairly traditional and reverent in terms of how we visually showcase the tournament," Epstein told the outlet. "But just knowing that the Masters—certainly Augusta National and ESPN—are constantly looking to engage and reach younger audiences, music just felt like this important and powerful device that we could use…to engage and be relevant with younger audiences." Advertisement Yet the feedback on social media has primarily been negative, with many upset the network switched to a singer with no roots in Georgia or the South. The two-time Grammy nominee was born in the small town of Strafford, Vermont which served as inspiration for his 2022 song "Northern Attitude." Meanwhile the late Charles, who died in 2004, was born in Albany, Georgia. People react online to the new 'Georgia On My Mind' cover Kahan's cover of "Georgia On My Mind" has received heavy backlash online, with one X post reading "Love Noah, but this ain't it at all." Advertisement "No one captures one of the most sacred traditions in Georgia history like *checks notes* New England native Noah Kahan." a different X user wrote. "No offense to Noah's version, but please pull the plug on this," another user wrote. "Love some Noah Kahan but what an absolute butcher job on an all time song and artist. Should've been the original," one post reads. "Not to be dramatic but this offends me in ways I can't even put into words," another wrote. When is the 2025 Masters tournament? The Masters tournament is set to commence its first round on Thursday, April 10. The second round is scheduled for Friday, April 11, which will determine the cut. The final two rounds are slated for Saturday, April 12, and Sunday, April 13.
