Kaipo Dudoit Brings Heart to Disney's Live-Action Lilo & Stitch
Actor Kaipo Dudoit is riding the wave of excitement as he steps into the role of David in Disney's highly anticipated live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. In a recent interview, Dudoit shared his experience bringing this beloved story to life — a tale close to his heart as a local Hawaiian and lifelong fan of the original film. 'Lilo & Stitch is a funny and sweet story about Lilo, a lonely Hawaiian girl, and her friendship with the reckless alien, Stitch,' Dudoit explained. 'It's about love, misfits, and the unbreakable bonds of family — or 'ohana.' Dudoit plays David, a laid-back surfer and lifeguard who's friends with Lilo's older sister, Nani. 'David wears his heart on his sleeve,' he shared. 'He's more open with his aloha, the perfect balance to Nani's more guarded nature.' Landing the role was a dream come true. 'I auditioned here in Hawaii, surrounded by friends, which made it even more special,' Dudoit said. 'Being part of this film — a story that meant so much to me as a kid — is an incredible honor.' Preparing for the role included water safety training and refining his surfing skills. 'I grew up surfing, but it was great to get back into it with some coaching. The water scenes were definitely a highlight of filming.' Dudoit, who was around six when the animated movie first premiered, remembers how impactful it was to see Hawaiian representation on screen. 'It made me feel seen,' he said. 'Now, being part of this reimagining — one that keeps the humor, chaos, and deep heart of the original — is truly full circle.' Disney's live-action Lilo & Stitch is a tribute to Hawaii, family, and belonging — and Kaipo Dudoit is honored to help bring that magic to life. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
