Meet actor who quit movies after flop debut, fought depression, later won National Award, worked in highest-grossing film, his name is...
A misconception that often remains in the audience's mind is that if an actor comes from a background of actors, then they have an upper hand in the entertainment industry. These people are called the nepo kids of Indian cinema. However, in some cases, these preconceived notions fail. Today, we will discuss an actor who made a disappointing start in the industry with his debut film. However, he rose to fame with his own efforts, despite his father being one of the known producers in the South. This actor has battled depression and has been diagnosed with Adult ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). He publicly opened up about his disorder and gave a platform to other actors to be vocal about their mental health issues. If you are wondering which actor we are talking about, then he is Pushpa fame Fahadh Faasil. Fahadh, born to filmmaker Fazil, made his debut in 2002 with his father's film, Kaiyethum Doorath. In the film, Fahadh worked with Nikita Thukral, under the stage name Shaanu. The movie was a huge failure. As per News18, reports claim that following his film's failure, Fahadh went into depression. In one of the interviews, Fahadh said that after the failed debut, he went to the US to pursue his studies, wishing never to return to films. He told Film Companion South, 'I was there for eight years or so. When I came back to Kerala, I had to find a job… I needed to do something to earn a living. The only close circle of friends I had were working in the cinema. So I started interacting with them and getting involved in the writing process. That's when my first acting opportunity came for the segment Mrityunjayam in the anthology film Kerala Cafe. I wasn't serious about it at all. Upon seeing that, Sameer Thahir called me for Chaappa Kurishu.' Later, Fahadh made his comeback in films with the film Kerala Cafe. The movie was a huge hit. Then, in the following years, Fahadh featured in a number of movies such as Diamond Necklace, 22 Female Kottayam, and more. He also received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor with his performance in Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. Fahadh featured in the Pushpa franchise, which turned out to be a massive hit worldwide.
