Canadiens Farm Team Ready For Game Three

The third-round series pitting the Montreal Canadiens' farm team, the Laval Rocket, and the Buffalo Sabres' farm team, the Rochester Americans, resumes tonight with the third game. Each team won one game in Rochester and entered tonight's match-up, with the best-of-five series tied 1-1. Laval won game one 5-4 with Cayden Primeau in the net and lost game two 5-3 with Jacob Fowler in the net. Neither were particularly sharp, with the former posting a .852 save percentage and the latter a .886, and Pascal Vincent is expected to continue rotating his netminders. At the same time, Rochester will keep riding Devon Levi. Canadiens: What If The PWHL Expansion Rules Happened In The NHLCanadiens: A Potential UFA Target?Canadiens: The Grades Are In – Kirby Dach In order to win, the Rocket will need to find a way to neutralise Kale Clague, who's currently third in the league in points. The defenseman was a second-round pick by the Los Angeles Kings in 2016 and spent 25 games in the Canadiens' organization during the 2021-22 season. Jiri Kulich will also need to be closely watched. The rookie spent most of the season in the NHL, scoring 24 points in 62 games, and stands out against AHL competition. In five playoff games, he has seven points. Offensively, the Rocket will need veterans Laurent Dauphin and Alex Barre-Boulet to continue their strong play. They both have eight points through six games. In Friday's defeat, Laval could only muster 19 shots on goal, with the duo accounting for six of them. Defensemen Logan Mailloux and David Reinbacher had three each. Generating more shots will be essential if the Rocket wants to beat Levi, who sports a .931 SP and has been very stingy in the playoffs with a 2.01 goals-against average. As for Primeau, who should be on duty for Laval, he has a .865 SP and a 3.62 GAA in just two outings. Fowler has the better numbers with a 1.75 GAA and a .929, but Vincent said before the start of the series that he intended to rotate his netminders. Logan Mailloux, who has looked very good in the postseason, will need to keep up his strong play. The blueliner is fifth in the league for points by a defenseman with five in six games, but he's also been efficient defensively. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 PM in Laval (you can watch on RDS), and game four is set for Friday, May 22, at 7:00 PM in Laval. If a fifth game is necessary, it will also be played at the Rocket's arena on Sunday, May 25. Canadiens stories, analysis, breaking news, and more! Amerks Even Series With Laval

The Rochester Americans faced the prospect of going down 2-0 in their best-of-five AHL North second-round series against the Laval Rocket at Blue Cross Arena on Friday, but Jiri Kulich broke a 3-3 tie late in the third period on the power play to give Rochester a lead they would not relinquish in a 5-3 victory. Isak Rosen scored a pair of goals, Kale Clague tallied his club-leading fifth goal of the playoffs, and Lukas Rousek added his first of the postseason in a must-win for the Amerks. After taking the lead early in the first on Clague's power play goal, Laurent Dauphin tied the game with his fourth of the playoffs, but Rosen put Rochester back in front just 34 seconds later. Laval bounced back in the middle frame, tying the game on a Lucas Condotta goal and taking the lead on Jared Davidson's second of the post-season, but the Amerks tied the game with 40 seconds left in the second. Sabres Summer Dilemmas - Bowen Byram Sabres Facing An Off-Season Of Change Devon Levi faced only 19 shots in the contest and made 16 saves for his fourth win of the playoffs, while Jacob Fowler faced 35 Rochester shots in the loss. The Sabres top prospects did most of the damage in the contest, as 2024 top pick Konsta Helenius set up Clague for the opening goal, Rosen finished with three points, 2022 first-rounder Noah Ostlund assisted on Rosen's empty-netter, Kulich had a goal and an assist, and 2019 top pick Ryan Johnson had a helper on Rosen's first period goal. The series will now shift to Laval for the next two (or possibly three) games, where the Amerks split the season series with the Montreal Canadiens affiliate 2-2 during the regular season. Because of the peculiarity of the Calder Cup Playoff schedule, Game 3 will not go until this Wednesday, with Game 4 on Friday and a potential deciding Game 5 next Sunday. Amerks even series with Laval after 5-3 win

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) — Jiri Kulich scored the game-winning goal with just under eight minutes left in the play as the Amerks knocked off Laval 5-3 in the second game of their North Division Finals series. Rochester outshot the Rocket 36-19 and evened the best of five series at a win apiece. Isak Rosen scored twice and had a three point night. Lukas Rousek added a goal and an assist. Kale Clague had never played in a playoff game before this season. He's also yet to play in one without scoring a goal. The veteran defenseman opened the scoring with another missile from the point six minutes into the first period. He has scored one goal in all five Rochester playoff games so far. Laval got even on a tipped backhand that popped up and over Devon Levi's shoulder without the Amerks goalie seeing it. The tie lasted only 35 seconds. Rosen tipped in a Ryan Johnson shot and Rochester had a 2-1 lead after the first. Zach Metsa helped Laval square the game for a second time. A turnover next to his own goal post ended up a free spin in front for Lucas Condotta who deposited the gift top corner. Jared Davidson potted a big rebound from Levi nine minutes later and Laval had their first lead at 3-2. Late in the period, Rosen's hustle to keep a puck in the zone allowed Metsa to put a shot on goal. The puck bounced up and a few feet outside the right post. Rousek drove on the loose change and slapped a backhand on net as he was falling over a skate. The puck hit the post, then goalie Jacob Fowler in the back and rolled in the net with 40 seconds left. The teams went to the third period even at three. The Rocket took a goaltender interference penalty with just over nine minutes to play and Rochester capitalized. Rousek sent a gorgeous saucer pass to the point and Kulich one-timed it for the go-ahead goal. Levi stopped all six third period shots he faced to make the lead stand up. It was the first time either team in the series had been held scoreless for an entire period. Rosen added an empty netter with nine seconds left to seal the win. Levi finished with just 16 saves. He made less saves in a win only one time all year and that was back in November. The series now shifts to Quebec for the final three contests. Games 3 and 4 will be Wednesday and Friday. Game 5, if necessary, is Saturday afternoon. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Amerks Rally To Take Series Opener Against Syracuse

The Rochester Americans are seeking revenge against their closest geographic rival, as the Syracuse Crunch were responsible for their early exit in the Calder Cup Playoffs one year ago. The two clubs opened their AHL North Division first-round series on Friday, and after falling behind 2-0 in the second period, the Amerks quickly erased the deficit and held on for a 3-2 victory at Blue Cross Arena. Kale Clague scored the game winner just under four minutes into the third period and Rochester held on to take Game 1 of the best-of-five series. Former Sabre Conor Sheary and Dylan Duke put the Crunch up by a pair in the middle frame, but the Amerks got on the scoreboard just under a minute later on a goal from Brendan Warren. Riley Fiddler-Schultz tied the game and helped set up Clague for the difference maker. A Claguer 💣 from the left point... Winger Isak Rosen, centers Jiri Kulich, Noah Ostlund, and Tyson Kozak had a combined eight shots on goal in the contest, but 2024 first-round pick Konsta Helenius did set up Fiddler-Schultz for his tying marker.
