Harrisburg Muslim community celebrates end of Ramadan
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM)– The Muslim community in Harrisburg gathered at the Hadee Mosque today to celebrate Eid-Al-Fitr, the holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast during daylight hours, so the festive lunch that takes place on Eid is the first time in a month most of the participants have been able to eat at a typical meal time.
Participants start with prayers, introspection, and atonement ahead of the big fast-breaking feast.
While the holiday is a day of celebration, the one today is tinged with recognition of all the problems in the world.
'We are very, very saddened with the Muslim world. They are not able to celebrate as we are here in the United States. We pray for them, not just during Ramadan, but even since the conflicts began overseas. We've always prayed for peace,' Kalim Bhatti, the spokesperson for the Harrisburg chapter of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, said.
