Two Indonesians caught mining gold in Jeli
JELI: Two Indonesian men were arrested here on Saturday during a joint operation by the police and the Land and Mines Office over suspected illegal gold mining activities.
District police chief Superintendent Kamarulzaman Harun said both suspects failed to produce any identification documents or valid mining permits when inspected.
Following the raid, police seized an excavator, a generator, and a sluice machine believed to have been used in the mining activities.
"The suspects, aged 30 and 32, have been detained for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
"As for the illegal mining activities, we have referred the matter to the Land and Mines Office for further action," he said when contacted.
Kamarulzaman said police remain committed to carrying out continuous operations to combat trespassing, smuggling, and all forms of illegal activity along the national border.
