Body of woman analyst killed in Bengaluru stampede brought to Udumalpet for cremation
COIMBATORE: The body of a 27-year-old woman, who died in the stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, was brought to her native Udumalpet in Tiruppur district on Thursday and cremated in the evening. The deceased was identified as MR Kamatchi (27), daughter of S Moorthy and S Rajalakshmi from VH Rao Nagar in Udumalpet. Kamatchi has been working as an analyst at a leading e-commerce firm in Bengaluru in Karnataka state for the last eight years. Moorthi is a correspondent of Vivekananda Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School at Myvadi in Udumalpet. On Wednesday, Kamatchi and her friends were near the stadium to celebrate the maiden victory of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise in the Indian Premier League. In the ensuing chaos and stampede, Kamatchi and 10 others were killed. Her body was brought to her native and kept at their school premises to pay respects. Kamatchi's body was cremated in Udumalpet Town on Thursday evening.

Techie from Tirupur loses life in Bengaluru stampede
Coimbatore: A 27-year-old techie from Udumalpet in Tirupur district, who had accompanied her friends to the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium in Bengaluru, died in a stampede on Wednesday. She had been working as a manager at a popular e-commerce company in Bangalore for the last couple of years. "Kamatchi was neither a cricket nor a RCB fan. But her life ended in a stampede at a cricket stadium only because some of her colleagues compelled her to join them to witness the celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory in the (IPL)," said a family member. P Senthil Balaji, a resident of VG Rao Nagar, said, "The family's situation is really tragic. Kamatchi was supposed to soon take over as the secretary of a school for the underpriviledged, started by her grandfather. She was least interested in entertainment and was more of a religious and social worker. Her death is a huge loss." According to sources, Devi's family has been running a school for the underprivileged, built by her grandfather nearly four decades ago. The family's active participation in social welfare activities is currently led by her father, Murthy, who is an activist. Several residents of the town, friends, well-wishers, and paid their last respects while lamenting her tragic demise. Her remains were later cremated on Thursday.

Bengaluru stampede: Tamil Nadu woman techie killed
A young woman from Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur district, Kamatchi (27), was among those who lost their lives in the stampede outside the M.A. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday (June 4, 2025). Her body is being brought to her home town in Udumalpet. Kamatchi, an IT employee who was working at a software firm in Bengaluru, had gone to watch the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team's maiden Indian Premium League (IPL) championship victory celebrations, when the stampede occurred. She is the daughter of S. Moorthy and S. Rajalakshmi, the correspondent of Vivekanda Vidyalaya Matriculation School near Myvadi near Udumalpet. Her parents and relatives have rushed to Bengaluru to bring her body back.

TN CM Stalin dedicates new houses to mahouts at Theppakkadu
NILGIRIS: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday handed over keys to newly built houses for mahouts and kavadis (assistants) at the Theppakkadu elephant camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR), recognising their service in caring for captive elephants. A total of 44 houses, built at a cost of `5.06 crore, were inaugurated during his visit. It has been named Mahout village. Members of the tribal community welcomed the chief minister with traditional music and dance performances. Stalin, who is on a five-day tour of the Nilgiris district, also planted a sapling and interacted with Bomman and Belli, the tribal couple featured in the Oscar-winning documentary 'The Elephant Whisperers'. He later fed sugarcane and fruits to captive elephants, including Bama and Kamatchi, and posed for photographs alongside them.
