Drake Baldwin's solo home run (6)
Hawaii's Kanekoa Texeira selected to MLB All-Star Futures Game staff After logging time in the major leagues as a pitcher, Maui native Kanekoa Texeira is once again climbing the professional baseball ladder, this time from the dugout. Texeira, a Kamehameha Schools graduate from Kula, Maui, is in his second season as the Triple-A manager for the Gwinnett Stripers, the Atlanta Braves' top affiliate in the International League. The former big-league reliever, who pitched 67 innings across two seasons with the Seattle Mariners and Kansas City Royals from 2010 to 2012, has quickly gained respect as a rising managerial talent. That reputation has earned him a new honor, a spot on the coaching staff for the 2025 All-Star Futures Game, set for July 12 at Truist Park in Atlanta. "Hey, you know, it's fun," Texeira said. "It's always been part of my dream to stick in this game as long as I can. Reach out to lots of kids or players that I can share in the knowledge I've learned. I still get shocked sometimes, managing a Triple-A team, one step away from the big leagues. If it happens, it happens. If not, I'm still proud of what I've done and what I'm doing right now." Texeira's selection to the Futures Game staff came via a text from Braves legend Chipper Jones. "Chipper texted me and said, 'Hey, you want to coach third base?'" Texeira recalled. "I said, 'Of course.' Then he said, 'Good, because you're going to be with me in the Futures Game.' I told him, 'I'd be stupid to say no to Chipper Jones, man. I got you.'" 2:44 Now Playing Paused Ad Playing

‘Lilo & Stitch' Charted A No. 1 Hit In America Before The Movie Was Rleeased
Iam Tongi's 'Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride' re-recording hits No. 1 on the World Digital Song Sales ... More chart ahead of the Lilo & Stitch remake release. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MAY 17: Iam Tongi attends the world premiere of Disney's Lilo & Stitch at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California on May 17, 2025. (Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images for Disney) The live action/animated remake of Lilo & Stitch hit theaters in the United States on Friday, May 23. The picture reimagines the 2002 Disney classic, hopefully introducing it to a younger audience, and making them fall in love with the weird, blue creature, just as millennials did before — and a new film means new music. Even before the movie arrived in cinemas, Lilo & Stitch already managed to make an impact on the charts. A new recording tied to the project becomes a No. 1 hit on a Billboard tally this week. As excitement around the movie surged, a single was issued ahead of the soundtrack's release. A re-recording of the classic "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" was covered by Iam Tongi and the Kamehameha Schools Children's Chorus. The singer is best known as the winner of the twenty-first season of American Idol. The new cut instantly debuts at No. 1 on the World Digital Song Sales chart, giving the family franchise another Billboard win. As the updated version of "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" arrives on the World Digital Song Sales chart, another take on the same tune also reappears. The version originally featured in the 2002 film — credited to Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu and, again, the Kamehameha Schools Children's Chorus — returns at No. 4. That position marks the tune's all-time peak on the list. That placement comes after a remarkable 382 weeks somewhere on the world genre ranking. The Lilo & Stitch soundtrack dropped several days after "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" in full. It includes a score by Dan Romer, a brand new tune titled "He Lei Pāpahi No Lilo a me Stitch" written specifically for the film, and a cover of Elvis Presley's "Burning Love," performed by Nyjah Music & Zyah Rhythm. The updated performance of the legendary tune – which was also featured in the original movie – was produced by Bruno Mars, who also happens to be the uncle of the two young talents lending their voices to the track.

Hawaii to file lawsuit against fossil fuel companies
HONOLULU (KHON2) — As the legislative session that saw the State of Hawaii navigate an $800 million loss from the budget to pay for the Global Settlement for Lahaina wildfire victims comes to an end this week, Hawaii Governor Josh Green is turning attention to entities he thinks also need to pay up for the deadly and destructive disaster: fossil fuel companies. Aina to Makeke event aims to help Hawaii food businesses 'We will be filing suit, I believe, on Thursday against the fossil fuel companies. They have to pay their share because climate change and the climate impact is definitely connected to generations of extra fossil fuel that's been burned.' Governor Green said. The seven defendants in the Global Settlement include the State of Hawaii, County of Maui, Hawaiian Electric, Kamehameha Schools, West Maui Land Co., Hawaiian Telcom, and Spectrum/Charter Communications. They are slated to pay out a combined $4.037 billion. The hurricane-force wind-induced Lahaina wildfires in 2023 killed 102 people and caused billions in damage. 'Frankly, fossil fuels deserve to pay their share,' Governor Green said. 'We were able to weather all of those costs, but it would have been nice to have a couple of billion extra dollars from the fossil fuel companies. And I will be negotiating that over time. It's just the right thing to do.' The governor did not say which fossil fuel companies will be named in the also hopes that a bill to increase the Transit Accommodations Tax by 0.75% on travelers will help mitigate future wildfire risks through funding operations like fire breaks. 'Imagine if we had those fire breaks up before the wildfire occurred on August 8th, 2023, we wouldn't have had this $13 billion disaster.' Governor Green said. Research from the University of Hawaii has shown that visitors are willing to pay more for Hawaii culture, sustainability, and locally grown food. Governor Green says the fee would be about $4 on a room that costs $500 a night. 'That will help us pay for all of the climate impact that the 10 million visitors come, and cause,' he said. 'We'll be the first state in the country to do it. We need these dollars to help replenish our beaches, fix our fire breaks, have a stabilizing effect on the insurance market after the wildfires. It will bring over a hundred million dollars to us every year. Plus, for every $4,500,000 that we bond, we can get a hundred million dollars of projects out of it if we need them.' With uncertainty surrounding what climate change impacts will be in the islands in the future, Governor Green touts the financial malleability that the increase provides in responding to disasters, especially with uncertainty at the federal level and a law requiring the state to operate on a balanced budget. 'Say, for example, if we had a terrible hurricane that took out part of Waikiki, I could quickly fix it because we'll have these dollars. So that's another huge piece of legislation,' Governor Green said.
