SSB gives emotional send-off to Heinz after over 8 glorious years of service

Madhubani: In an emotional farewell ceremony held on Monday, the 48th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Jaynagar, recalled the services of one of its most distinguished members—a trained narcotics detection dog named Heinz. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The event was marked by the presence of officers, jawans, and their families, who gathered to celebrate Heinz's unparalleled service and dedication. A press release issued by the SSB issued on Monday stated that Heinz, a loyal and highly trained Labrador Retriever, began his service in Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) on Jan 21, 2016. After a year of intensive training at the National Training Centre for Dogs, BSF Tekanpur, Heinz was inducted into the 48th Battalion on Jan 7, 2017. His primary role was detection of illegal narcotic substances such as opium, ganja, and brown sugar. Throughout his tenure, Heinz demonstrated extraordinary skills and commitment. He played a key role in uncovering numerous narcotic consignments, significantly aiding anti-smuggling efforts in the India-Nepal border region. His contributions earned him immense respect among the personnel and officers of the battalion. After over eight years of distinguished service, Heinz has now been officially retired. During the farewell ceremony, ASI Kamlesh Kumar Singh, Heinz's handler, was also recognised for his dedication and service. On this occasion, Harendra Singh, second-in-command and acting commandant of the battalion, praised Heinz's achievements. "Dogs like Heinz are not only an integral part of our force but also a symbol of loyalty, discipline, and unmatched service. His contribution will always be remembered with pride," he said.
