War memorial construction in Mysuru gains momentum
1 2 3 Mysuru: The construction of the war memorial at the Old Deputy Commissioner 's office garden in Mysuru, which was progressing slowly, has now gained momentum. The public works department, executing the project under the supervision of the department of Kannada and culture and the Sainik welfare and rehabilitation department, is expediting the final phase of on July 29, 2022, the project aims to commemorate the sacrifices of soldiers. Once all the polishing work of the monument is completed after the installation, this memorial will be further enhanced with the addition of green slabs around the base, providing a traditional touch. Inscriptions in gold colour will be added to provide a distinctive look to the war memorial monument is designed in a square shape. A six-foot Ashoka Emblem with lions on all four sides will also be carved and placed above the 33m war memorial monument, on the lines of the National Museum, Delhi. This six-foot Ashoka emblem will be sculpted and carved by noted sculptor Arun Yogiraj of Mysuru. Contributions of Saint Bhagiratha remembered
1 2 Mysuru: Chamaraja MLA K Harishgowda on Sunday remembered the contributions of Saint Bhagiratha for the welfare of society. He was speaking after inaugurating the Bhagiratha Jayanti celebrations organised jointly by the department of Kannada and culture and the district administration at Kalamandir in the city. He also appealed to people to idolise the character of Saint Bhagiratha and to end discrimination of people on caste and religious basis. MLC D Thimmaiah also remembered the contributions of Saint Bhagiratha in bringing Goddess Ganga , the goddess of water, to earth to fulfil the demands of the people. Even today, a large number of people worship the contributions of Ganga for her sacrifices and for bringing water. Retired commissioner of excise Jagannath Rao Sagar remembered the contributions of Saint Bhagiratha in the unification of all other backward classes under one umbrella. Bhagirath Gurupeeth Purushottamananada Swami, assistant director of Kannada and culture MD Sudarshan, joint director VN Mallikarjunaswamy, and others were present.

Follow Basavanna to build discrimination-free society: MLA
1 2 Mysuru/Mandya: Former minister and KPCC working president Tanveer Sait on Wednesday said that the teachings of the 12th-century social reformer Basavanna, who propagated the principles of equality and brotherhood in his Vachanas, are always relevant to society. He was speaking after inaugurating Basava Jayanti celebrations organised jointly by the district administration and the department of Kannada and culture, in the city. He asked people to follow the ideals and teachings of Basavanna to build an equal, discrimination-free society. He bemoaned that even though such great personalities thought about a discrimination-free society , the practice of untouchability and discrimination based on caste, colour, and language has continued. People must strive to eradicate such practices, Sait, who is Narasimharaja MLA, said. Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa hailed the contributions of Basavanna in transforming the lives of millions of people across the world through his Vachanas, his life, and other literary works. Writer Rajashekhar Jamadagni said Basavanna also advocated the distribution of wealth and equal opportunities for all citizens. Basavanna was instrumental in the establishment of Anubhava Mantapa as a religious parliament, encouraging discussion and free speech from people of all faiths. He was speaking after offering floral tribute to the portrait of Basavanna at the Basava Jayanti celebrations organised jointly by the district administration, zilla panchayat, and the department of Kannada and culture, held in Mandya. The minister also highlighted the contributions of Basavanna in trying to establish an egalitarian, discrimination-free society by uniting people under one faith. Durdundeshwara Mahantha Shivayogi Mutt seer Trinethra Mahantha Swami recalled the works of Basavanna for treating women with equal respect, upholding the dignity of women, and ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women during the 12th century. He asked people to shun arrogance and hatred and to follow the ideals of Basava dharma to build a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous society. The seer also appreciated the vachanas of the 12th century that brought changes in the lives of crores of people, he said.
