Sonu Nigam recently lost his cool after a young boy rudely demanded him to sing a Kannaga song. He was performing at the East Point College in Bengaluru when the incident happened. The video from the show has gone viral. The singer, who often grabs headlines, was seen talking about his love for the language.
Sonu Nigam said, 'I have sung songs in all languages. But the best songs that I have sung in my life are Kannada songs. Main aapke beech mein jabbhi aata hoon bohut pyaar se aata hoon. Shows toh roz karte hain humlog, lekin jab kabhi bhi Karnataka mein kahi bhi shows hote hain hum bohut izzat se aate hai kyuki aap logo nein humien apna pariwaar maan hai.
Sonu also shared how the fan 'threatened' him to sing in Kannada. 'Mujhe accha nahi laga ki waha ek ladka jiski umar, jitni uske umar nahi hogi use pehle toh main Kannada gaane garaha hoon. He was so rudely threatening me, 'Kannada, Kannada'. Yahi kaaran hai, Pahalgam mein jo hua hai na? Yahi kaaran hai jo karrahe ho, jo kiya tha na abhi? Dekho toh kaun saamne khada hai. I love Kannadigas, I love you guys. Main puri duniya mein jaha bhi jata hoon, main humesha bolta hoon main, sabko bolta hoon main…14,000 ki audience hog usme ek awaaz aati hai, 'Kannada'. Toh main unke liye, us ek Kannadiga k liye main kuch line Kannadiga k gaata hoon. Main itni izzat karta hoon aapki, itna pyaar karta hoon. So thoda sa rehna chahiye, aesa nahi karna chahiye aapko."

Recently, reports claimed that Sonu Nigam was pelted with stones and water bottles during his performance at Delhi Technological University's fest, Engifest 2025. However, the singer has now denied these claims. Taking to Instagram, he clarified that only a vape was thrown on stage, which led him to pause the show and warn the audience that he would stop performing if it happened again. In a humourous twist, someone also tossed a bunny-ear hairband — which Sonu playfully called a 'pookie band" — and he happily wore it while continuing his performance. He even shared a photo of himself singing with the hairband on his head.
In the caption, the singer wrote, 'Nothing like hurling of stones or bottles as mentioned in some media happened at DTU. There was one Vape thrown by someone on stage that hit Subhankar's chest and that's when I was informed about it. I paused the show and requested and reminded the collegians that the show will have to be abruptly stopped if something like that happened again. The only thing hurled on stage after that, was the Pookie band. Which was really Pookie."
