Dance teacher sexually assaults minor girl, held in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: A 29-year-old dance teacher at a reputed international school was arrested for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl. The accused Bharath Kannan is a resident of Chikkabanavara in Hosakote, and the crime happened on May 24. He was arrested on Tuesday near his residence. The accused was detained under the POCSO Act and has been remanded to judicial custody. Kannan, who was travelling in his car, lured the victim into his vehicle when she was walking back from Sai Baba Ashram in Kadugodi. After taking her to an isolated place, he assaulted her. After the accused dropped her, she approached the police and filed a complaint. Following the lead, police picked up Kannan from his residence. He confessed to the crime during interrogation. The accused is also said to have visited the girl's school and 'offered to train her,' said one of the officers.

Dance master arrested for sexually harassing teenager
Bengaluru: A 32-year-old dance master was arrested on charges of harassing a 17-year-old girl by taking her for a drive in his car. The accused is Hoskote resident Bharathi Kannan. Police said the incident occurred around 11am on May 24. The girl, who completed her PU, was trying to get admission to a private college. She wanted to secure an education loan and went to a bank in Kadugodi to get details about the procedure. Kannan, who was driving his car, spotted the girl walking alone on the roadside. He approached her and introduced himself as a dance master. He told her he'd like to teach her dance and make her a celebrity, and asked her to get into his car. The girl initially didn't pay attention and continued to walk. However, Kannan pursued her and convinced her to get into the vehicle, police said. Kannan took her for a drive and started to sexually harass her by touching her inappropriately. The girl warned him and tried to get out of the car, but he'd locked the doors. The teenager then started crying for help and banged on the window glass to catch the attention of passersby. Cops initially suspected the girl might have known the dance master. A case of sexual harassment and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act was registered. Kannan was arrested Wednesday and remanded in judicial custody.

Land surveyor arrested in Salem for accepting bribe
SALEM: A land surveyor has been arrested in Salem city for taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man who approached him for a patta transfer. M Shankar, 45, who is employed at the Salem West tahsildar's office, demanded Rs 5,000 from S Kannan, 40, of Pudu Road for the patta transfer. Kannan, who was reluctant to pay the bribe, filed a complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption (DVAC) on Tuesday. DVAC officers, under the direction of inspector Ravikumar, provided Kannan with chemical-coated currency notes. They caught Shankar red-handed while he accepted the bribe money from Kannan near Cholampallam bus stop. Shankar was remanded in judicial custody.
