Olathe Public Schools adjusts calendar following snow days, time added to day
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Following an unprecedented number of bad weather days, Olathe Public Schools said Wednesday that it will modify the remaining school year schedule.
The district explained in a statement that it is modifying the school schedule to ensure that all students receive the state required number of instruction hours.

The district said that it is 'committed to prioritizing instructional time and values having our students in school.'
The Kansas Board of Education requires all students to have 1,116 hours, except for seniors who must have 1,086 hours.
The district said the following changes will take effect after spring break to meet the requirements while upholding the community's goal of ending the school year by Memorial Day:
Changes for All Students
March 24, April 24, April 25 – These scheduled professional development days will now be full school days for all students.
Changes for Elementary School Students
Extend the school day by five minutes: Effective March 24, 2025, elementary school will be held from 8:55 a.m. to 4 p.m. Information regarding the A-D schedule will be shared at a later time.

Changes for Middle School Students
Extend the school day by five minutes: Middle school will be held from 8:20 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.
Changes for High School Students
Extend the school day by 10 minutes: Effective March 24, 2025, high school will be held from 7:40 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.
Eliminate high school late starts: Following spring break, there will be no Thursday late starts, with classes beginning at 7:40 a.m.
Full-Day on May 21 (grades 9-11) This finals day for students in grades 9-11 will now be a full-day instead of a half-day
If there are additional inclement weather closures or delays, the district said it will look at making up time on May 22 and/or May 23.
