Hundreds gathered in KC to denounce last weekend's white nationalist march
Hundreds of people gathered near the Plaza Saturday evening protesting against masked white nationalists who held a rally outside the WWI Museum and Memorial last weekend. 'Hey, hey, ho, ho, Nazi scum have got to go,' they chanted. The protesters met at 5 p.m. at Mill Creek Park and walked about two miles through Westport, down Southwest Trafficway and back through the Plaza, according to Ed Hererra, who protested at the event. This comes after scores of white nationalists called the Patriot Front, 'an avowedly fascist nationwide organization' met in Kansas City on Saturday, May 24. They covered their faces and chanted, 'Life, liberty, victory' and 'Reclaim America.' Some of them carried shields and other flags, including confederate and upside down American flags. The group formed in the aftermath of the deadly 'Unite the Right' march in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, according to the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights. Sgt. Philip DiMartino of the Kansas City Police Department said Saturday's protest lasted about three hours and it dispersed peacefully.

Police investigating shooting that left two men dead in south Kansas City
Two people were killed in a shooting in the Fairwood and Robandee neighborhood in south Kansas City on Friday evening, police said. Officers were initially called shortly before 7:30 p.m. to the area of East 92nd Terrace and James A. Corvette taken from Waldo, stolen auto parts, drugs, found at Independence shop
Law enforcement recovered a Corvette stolen from a Waldo street at an auto shop in Independence, where investigators also found stolen items and drugs, a spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. Investigators found the vehicle at a business in the 10200 block of U.S. Highway 40 in Independence using an aftermarket tracking device, said Cpl. Justin Ewing. Kansas City police, Independence police and a state patrol SWAT team executed a search warrant there on May 9, and the Corvette was recovered, he said. A large amount of drugs was also seized at the site, and one person who had an outstanding warrant was arrested, Ewing said. Ewing said stolen auto parts were also found at the site, but said he couldn't confirm what knowledge the owner of the business had of the stolen Corvette or if the owner had any direct tie to the theft or shooting in Waldo. Residents of the Waldo neighborhood where the car was stolen in April told The Star of two incidents over a week in which a group sprayed gunfire at homes and then returned to steal the Corvette a few days later. They said the group fired shots at the homes when a resident interrupted the group as they were prowling vehicles on their street early one morning and returned a week later, again armed with guns, and stole the Corvette off its owner's driveway. Suspects in the shooting have not yet been identified, according to law enforcement. Capt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department, said detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and are making headway in identifying a subject of interest.

Parkville teen enters not guilty plea in burning of Kansas City Tesla trucks
The suspect in an alleged arson fire set at a Kansas City Tesla dealership pleaded not guilty in federal court Friday. Parkville native Owen McIntire, 19, is accused of allegedly making an incendiary device known as a Molotov cocktail and using it to start a fire at the Tesla dealership on State Line Road on March 17. Two Cybertrucks were damaged in the fire, valued at $105,485 and $107,485, according to court documents. The fire also damaged two charging stations worth about $550 each. McIntire faces charges of malicious damage to property and possession of an unregistered destructive device and could be imprisoned for up to 20 years. McIntire was arrested in Massachusetts, where he attends college. He first appeared in federal court on April 18. McIntire was released to his parents' home and has been under electronic monitoring, among other restrictive release conditions, according to court records. On the night of the incident, a Kansas City police officer noticed smoke rising from the Tesla lot while passing by around 11:16 p.m., according to court documents. The officer saw a grey Cybertruck on fire, with an unbroken Molotov cocktail in an apple cider vinegar bottle lying nearby. A burnt rag was found on the pavement next to the homemade explosive, court documents read. The officer tried to extinguish the burning car, but the fire spread to a second Cybertruck, prompting a visit from the Kansas City Fire Department, according to court documents. Surveillance footage and DNA evidence contributed to McIntire's arrest, as well as phone and digital records and the discovery of his hat in a Leawood backyard, court documents read. The Star's Ilana Arougheti and Kendrick Calfee contributed reporting.
