1,200 couples tie knot under mass marriage programme in UP

Speaking at the programme, Adityanath said the real government is the one that can go to people's house and solve their problems. Addressing the Mukhyamnatri Saamoohik Vivaah Samaaroh — the mass marriage ceremony of 1,200 couples held at the premises of Hindustan Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited on Tuesday — Adityanath said, 'To make India the biggest power in the world, we have to think about every person sitting at the last rung of the society. We have to bring a change in their lives. To bring about this change, the government has started programmes like Matru Vandana Yojana, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao Yojana, Kanya Sumangala Yojana and Ayushman Yojana. The mass marriage scheme is also a symbol of this progressive thinking.' The government has increased the expenditure per couple under the mass marriage scheme from Rs 51,000 to Rs 1 lakh from this year, a statement issued here said. Gorakhpur (UP), May 27 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said every person from the last rung of the society need to be uplifted to make India the biggest power in the world. He said the mass marriage programme is a step after the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao scheme. It is also an attack on social stereotypes like child marriage, polygamy and dowry system. 'If we want to save the daughter, we have to educate her, we have to empower her. We will have to make all the arrangements to take the daughter forward,' Adityanath said, adding that in 2017, the government started the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana for the education of the daughter from birth to graduation to end the suffering of the poor. Under this, about 24 lakh girls from poor and deprived families of the state are being given an amount of Rs 25,000 for education from birth to graduation. The chief minister said that after the birth of a daughter, a fixed amount is deposited in her account as soon as she registers. A fixed amount is also given when the daughter turns one year old and is administered all the vaccines. After this, a fixed amount is sent to the account after the daughter enters Class 1, Class 6 and Class 9 and further on taking admission in ITI, diploma or other courses. Today this amount is becoming a support for the security of the daughter. Adityanath said that today, poor parents do not worry about their daughters' marriage due to the Chief Minister's mass marriage scheme. Apart from the chief minister, MLAs and other public representatives also participated in the programme. Hitting out at the previous government, Adityanath said that before 2017, only Rs 20,000 were given by the Social Welfare Department for girls belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. This amount, which was greatly insufficient, was released with discrimination, not everyone got it. Those who got it, did not get it on time. He said when the Mukhyamnatri Saamoohik Vivaah Yojana was started in 2017, the amount was increased to Rs 35,000, later to Rs 51,000 and from April 1 this year, to Rs 1 lakh. In this, Rs 60,000 will be deposited in the daughter's account. The remaining amount will be spent on household items, girl's jewelry and food and other arrangements. The government is doing this work to bring change in the lives to give up social evils like dowry system and child marriage. As many as 1,200 couples tied the sacred knot during the ceremony organised by the Social Welfare Department. PTI NAV RUK RUK This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Good governance paves way for public prosperity: U.P. CM Yogi

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said true governance is defined by its ability to reach the doorstep of the common people, resolve their real-life issues and uplift the last person in the queue. He said a responsible government actively steps into the lives of citizens, works alongside them, accelerates welfare initiatives, drives development—ultimately leading to prosperity for all. Yogi was speaking at a mass wedding ceremony organised under the CM Mass Marriage Scheme in Gorakhpur where he blessed 1,200 couples who tied the knot at the event organised at the fertilizer factory ground. The CM said he cannot attend individual weddings, but for this mass wedding ceremony, he left all the work in Lucknow and came to bless the brides. 'A daughter in a village is a daughter of us all,' he remarked, underlining the inclusive spirit of the scheme. Addressing the gathering, he described the mass wedding scheme as a powerful strike against child marriage, polygamy and the dowry system. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for transformation at the national level, mirrored in Uttar Pradesh over the past eight years. Tuesday's mass wedding marked the first large-scale event under the newly enhanced scheme which now allocates ₹1 lakh per couple—up from the previous amount of ₹51,000. Of this, ₹60,000 is directly deposited into the bride's account, while the remaining amount is used to provide essential household items, jewellery, meals and ceremony arrangements. 'We started the scheme in 2017. At that time, we decided ₹35,000 as the amount, which was later raised to ₹51,000. Today, this amount has been raised to ₹1 lakh since April,' he said. Describing the initiative as an extension of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, the CM emphasised its role in fighting regressive practices and empowering the marginalised, thereby contributing to the nation's overall upliftment. Yogi also highlighted the 'Kanya Sumangala Yojana', which supports girls from birth through graduation with financial aid of up to ₹25,000. Wishing the newlyweds a prosperous future, the CM reaffirmed his government's commitment to uplifting every family and eradicating social evils like casteism, untouchability and dowry.

Ahilyabai Holkar pioneered revival of Sanatan heritage: Yogi

LUCKNOW Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday eulogized Ahilyabai Holkar as the very epitome of 'dharma, justice, and national duty', and credited her with pioneering the revival of India's Sanatan heritage. At a ceremony marking the queen of Indore's 300th birth anniversary at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan here, he recalled that during an era marked by foreign invasions and widespread temple destruction, Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar courageously undertook the restoration of sacred sites from Kashi to Rameshwaram. 'In doing so, she embodied the Vedic principle 'Dharmo rakṣati rakṣitaḥ' (dharma protects those who protect it). Her legacy should inspire every citizen to contribute to the revival of India's ancient cultural glory,' he said. Adityanath said Ahilyabai undertook the task of re-establishing Sanatan Dharma in the country. Quoting her words — 'My path is the path of dharma; the path of dharma is the path of justice, and only justice can make us powerful and capable', the CM noted that this credo shaped both her statesmanship and service. The present-day splendour of the Kashi Vishwanath temple, he reminded the gathering, rests on the foundations she laid between 1777 and 1780 with her personal resources — work that Prime Minister Narendra Modi described in 2021 as the forerunner of the modern Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor. 'Ahilyabai's efforts stretched far beyond Kashi. She rebuilt and renovated Kedarnath, Rameshwaram, Somnath, Haridwar, Mahishmati, and numerous other holy sites, while commissioning ghats, wells and step-wells to ensure pilgrims' comfort and access to pure water,' CM said. Celebrating her as an enduring symbol of 'nari shakti', Adiytyanath highlighted her dharma-aligned, people-centric administration and her trail-blazing work in social justice and women's empowerment. She promoted the sari industry in Mahishmati to foster women's self-reliance, encouraged widow remarriage and moved to end child marriage. Drawing a parallel with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's post-Independence restoration of Somnath, Adityanath said Ahilyabai had sown the same seeds of cultural resurgence centuries earlier. He also invoked Adi Shankaracharya's four 'peethas' as proof of India's enduring cultural unity. The CM noted that, under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, monumental projects in Kashi, Ayodhya, Ujjain, and Maa Vindhyavasini Dham carry forward this legacy. 'Let us,' he said, 'take inspiration from Maharani Ahilyabai's life and commit ourselves wholeheartedly to restoring India's timeless splendour and the vitality of Sanatan culture.' Addressing the gathering, the CM emphasized that the double-engine government is implementing numerous schemes to empower women and foster self-reliance. Programmes like the 'Lakhpati Didi Yojana', launched under the leadership of the Prime Minister, had empowered over one crore women across the country. Similarly, initiatives such as the Kanya Sumangala Yojana, Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivaah Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana were providing women with opportunities to demonstrate their abilities, whether in village panchayats, households, or on the nation's frontiers. Giving an example, he said the presence of women workforce in UP went up from just 10,000 in 2017 to 40,000 now. During the ceremony, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary and Rajya Sabha MP Kavita Patidar aso presented their views on the contribution and relevance of Ahilyabai, appealing to party workers to take her deeds to each and every individual.
