Kapkapiii Movie Review: This campy horror comedy has more chuckles than chills
Story: A group of out-of-work boys begin dabbling with an Ouija board just for kicks. At first, it's all fun and games — until strange events start to unfold. What begins as harmless mischief soon spirals into chaos, turning their lives upside down. 'Kapkapiii' is a Hindi remake of the 2023 Malayalam horror-comedy Romancham. Review: Horror comedies flow in a peculiar rhythm that's often hard to perfect. It's a fine balance that has to be maintained between making it too campy, somewhat goofy, and scary enough to make the audience feel just a tinge of fear. Kapkapiii checks these boxes mostly — but not without flaws. Manu (Shreyas Talpade) and his friends Achyut (Dinker Sharma), Nanku (Jay Thakkar), Nirup (Varun Pande) and others are a bunch of nincompoops sharing a room and doing all the aimless things out-of-work boys usually do. Things get mildly exciting when two young girls — Kavya (Siddhi Idnani) and Madhu (Sonia Rathee) — move in next door. But just when romance seems like a possibility, the story takes a sharp, spooky turn when Manu brings home an Ouija board. What begins as casual foolery soon snowballs into a series of eerie events that start to disrupt their lives. The tension gradually builds until it reaches a flashpoint — an unmistakable, unsettling presence in the house. As the plot progresses, more twists stumble out of the closet, adding layers of chaos to the group's already messed-up reality. Directed by the late Sangeeth Sivan best known for comedies like 'Kya Kool Hain Hum', 'Apna Sapna Money Money', and 'Yamla Pagla Deewana 2', leans heavily into the humour more than the horror. The comedy is crude, occasionally borderline offensive, but many of the jokes surprisingly land. The film thrives in its raw, unfiltered moments — thanks to the tapori lingo and the wild ways these boys speak to each other. There's a consistent stream of chuckles, aided by the fact that each character is quirkier than the next. Sivan and writers Saurabh Anand and Kumar Priyadarshi find fertile ground in their concept — throwing a motley bunch of lazy fellas into a haunted house scenario. It's not polished, but it's packed with energy. Unfortunately, the female characters here feel like mere props. Their presence is largely inconsequential, and their romantic tracks do little beyond stretching the runtime. Tusshar Kapoor's entry in the second half is a welcome change of pace. His character Kabir has a very bizarre yet funny trajectory. Tusshar's goofy expressions help but his character could have been fleshed out better. Shreyas Talpade is loud, as expected, but brings the right madness to Manu. Among the supporting cast, Dibyendu Bhattacharya is a total riot even in a short cameo. He has the rare ability to make an impression with minimal screen time. The screenplay, while rooted in a solid concept, feels cluttered with too many characters and too much chaos. While the humour works, the horror often fizzles. Still, the chemistry between the boys keeps things from falling apart. Music by Ajay Jayanthi blends well with the film's overall vibe, keeping it breezy and fun. Overall, 'Kapkapiii' is a harmless fun film that will tickle your funny bone but won't exactly send shivers down your spine.

Kesari Veer box office collection day 3: Sooraj Pancholi-Suniel Shetty film struggles to earn Rs 1 cr, eclipsed by Rajkummar Rao's Bhool Chuk Maaf
The previous Friday saw the release of three films – Bhool Chuk Maaf, Kesari Veer and Kapkapiii – in theatres. Among the three, only the Rajkummar Rao-starrer Bhool Chuk Maaf has performed well at the box office. Kesari Veer, which is also termed as Sooraj Pancholi's comeback film, has been struggling at the box office since its release. The film, in fact, performed abysmally over its first weekend. According to Sacnilk, it minted Rs 32 lakh on Sunday, bringing its domestic collection to Rs 88 lakh after three days of release and failing to cross the Rs 1 crore mark. The film had a rough start from the beginning itself. It minted merely Rs 25 lakh on its opening day, which was followed by earning Rs 31 lakh on Saturday and Rs 32 lakh on Sunday. The film saw an overall 12.57 percent Hindi occupancy on Sunday. Like Kesari Veer, the horror comedy Kapkapiii is also struggling at the box office. The film earned Rs 26 lakh on Friday and collected Rs 28 lakh and Rs 38 lakh on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. However, among the three films released last Friday, Rajkummar Rao's Bhool Chuk Maaf emerged as a winner. The film earned Rs 11.25 crore on Sunday, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 27.73 crore within just three days of release. Kesari Veer doesn't stand a chance when compared to Sooraj Pancholi's debut film, Hero. Even though Hero was declared a flop, it performed significantly better than Pancholi's latest outing. In fact, Kesari Veer's total three-day collection couldn't even match Hero's opening day numbers. While Hero earned Rs 6.90 crore on its first day, Kesari Veer managed only Rs 25 lakh. Over its opening weekend, Hero had minted Rs 21.25 crore, a figure that dwarfs Kesari Veer's Rs 88 lakh. Kesari Veer is directed by Prince Dhiman and penned by Kanubhai Chauhan. The film tells the story of Hamirji Gohli, an unsung Rajput warrior who fought bravely against the Tughlak Empire to defend the sacred Somnath Temple. Sooraj Pancholi plays the fearless hero Hamirji Gohli in the film, while Vivek Oberoi is seen in the character of an antagonist. Suniel Shetty and Akansha Sharma play pivotal roles.

Bhool Chuk Maaf Day 3 Box Office Trends: Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi starrer set to record its biggest day
Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, is doing well at the box office. Marking the directorial debut of Karan Sharma, the romantic-comedy drama is registering a decent growth on its first Sunday over the previous day. Debuted with Rs 7 crore on its opening day, the small-town rom-com has benefited from multiple offers on the tickets. It witnessed a jump of around 35% on its second day and collected Rs 9.50 crore, taking the two-day cume to Rs 16.50 crore net. Going by the trends and occupancy on its third day (Sunday), the Rajkummar Rao movie is expected to see another spike of around 10 to 15%. The movie is targeting to add another Rs 11 crore to the tally on its Day 3, storming the Rs 27.50 crore by the end of its first weekend at the Indian box office. Bhool Chuk Maaf is faring extremely well against its rival releases- Kesari Veer and Kapkapiii. However, it is facing stiff competition from the Hollywood releases, Mission Impossible 8 and Final Destination 6 at the box office. The movie is expected to hold well on its weekdays. If it manages a strong run, it will sail through a successful theatrical run. Reportedly, the film is set to stream on the digital platform in the first week of June 2025, just two weeks after its theatrical debut.
