India's richest film family has no superstars, still a ₹10000 crore net worth; richer than Kapoors, Khans, Konidelas
It has been less than three decades since Hindi cinema earned the tag 'industry'. Earlier called the Hindi filmdom, Bollywood has grown exponentially in size and scale, producing films worth hundreds of crores each month. This has led to some of the biggest stars and producers becoming billionaires themselves. Over the years, as sons and grandsons have followed in their seniors' footsteps, wealthy film families have developed, from the Kapoors to the Chopras. Even down south, the Konidelas and the Akkinenis have extended their monopolies. Yet, none of them are as rich as this one film family, which started as fruit vendors and now lord over Bollywood. The Kumars of T-Series are the richest family in Indian cinema, according to the Hurun Rich List. The latest edition of the India list from Hurun, released last year, put the family's net worth at $1.2 billion (over ₹10,000 crore). This means that the Kumars are now the richest family in Bollywood, a tag once held by the Kapoors and, eventually, the Chopras. The Chopra family - owners of Yash Raj Films and BR Films - have a combined reported net worth of over ₹8000 crore, putting them in the second place after the Kumars. Shah Rukh Khan's family has a net worth of ₹7800 crore according to Forbes. The Kapoors, once the richest film family in India, are way below in the list with a combined net worth of just over ₹2000 crore. Some of the richest film families in India exist in the Telugu film industry, where some big clans operate, including the Mega Family (the Konidea-Allu family that includes Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan, Ram Charan, and Allu Arjun), and the Akkineni-Daggubati family (includes Nagrjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Venkatesh, and Rana Daggubati). The Mega Family has an estimated net worth of ₹4000 crore, courtesy of their production companies and successful films, but the Akkineni-Daggubati family is ahead with an estimated combined net worth of over ₹5000 crore, largely due to Nagarjuna's massive wealth. Yet, these two families are much behind what Bhushan Kumar and his family have managed, building an empire worth ₹10,000 crore. And it has done so without any acting superstar in the midst. Bhushan Kumar runs T-Series with his uncle and co-chairman Kishan Kumar, an actor-turned-producer. Other members of the family in Bollywood include actor-director Divya Khossla (Bhushan's wife), actor Khushali Kumar (Bhushan's sister), and singer Tulsi Kumar (Bhushan's younger sister). The Kumar family draws the bulk of their wealth from T-Series, the media conglomerate that began as a music label and is now one of India's biggest film production companies. The company also owns several other subsidiaries and an acting school in Noida. Just one generation ago, their patriarch Gulshan Kumar (Bhushan's father and Kishan's brother) was a fruit vendor in Delhi. His career path changed after he and his father acquired a shop selling music cassettes in the 70s. From there, he graduated to start his own record label, Super Cassettes, which developed into T-Series.

Riddhima Kapoor Sahni says ‘diets and Kapoors don't go together', gives an insight into breakfast at maternal home: ‘Mann kyu maarna hai'
Riddhima Kapoor Sahni recently opened up about her diet and lifestyle, admitting that while the Kapoors love their food, over the years their choices have become much healthier. 'These days, breakfast is very healthy. There are no parathas, we have cheelas instead. We have a fruit platter, toast, eggs, and all of that. So, it's not heavy duty, but healthier breakfast options,' said the fashion designer who appeared on Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives. Adding that Kapoors are born foodies, the 44-year-old said: 'We are born foodies. Honestly, in the Kapoor house, everyone is a foodie. We enjoy our food. I don't believe in the word diet. Honestly, I don't. Do what makes your soul happy. Eat everything, but eat in moderation. Portion control is the key. Don't deprive yourself of anything. If you feel like having something sweet, have it. That's what I do.' She clarified that while everyone eats healthy, they don't follow restrictive diets. 'I don't think anyone diets in the Kapoors. Diet and Kapoors don't go together. They love their food. I don't think anyone believes in diet. They do believe in eating a balanced diet, but can't think anyone diets in the family,' Riddhima said in a conversation with Fit Tak. Riddhima emphasised that she is particular about not depriving herself of anything. 'I try to eat healthy, but I have a binge day once a week. I eat everything. I don't deprive myself. I am not on any sort of diet because I don't believe in it. Mann kyu maarna hai? (Why should one restrain oneself?) But I won't overdo it. If I want to have something sweet, I will have a piece of chocolate, and why not? That way, I am satisfied,' said Riddhima, who enjoys ghar ka khaana, especially South Indian. 'I love curd rice, achaar, papad. I crave South Indian,' she said. Dt. Vaishali Verma, consultant in nutrition and dietetics at Manipal Hospital Dwarka, said that while a balanced, comfort food has a feel-good effect on both mind and body, it is essential to consider moderation. 'Good food can trigger the release of dopamine, a brain chemical linked to reward and pleasure. Simply thinking about your favourite dish can kickstart this dopamine release,' said Verma. Choices like choosing cheelas over parathas for breakfast are mindful. Besan cheela, made from gram flour, is a nutritious option that offers protein, fibre, and essential nutrients. This delicious and low-calorie option provides sustained energy and supports digestion, said Verma. When you emphasise portion control and mindful eating, you make healthier choices which help nourish the body, maintain weight, and promote overall well-being. ‘Swollen Ankles, Drooping Eyes But Worth It': Zeenat Aman On Shooting The Royals
Last Updated: Zeenat shared a heartfelt post on Instagram reflecting her experience working in the series as well as her admiration for her co-stars. Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar's latest venture, The Royals, is just a few days away from its grand release. With the upcoming rom-com series, veteran actress Zeenat Aman will be making her much-awaited return to acting, and fans are waiting with bated breath to watch her after nearly six years. As the anticipation builds around the Netflix series, Zeenat recently shared a heartfelt post on Instagram reflecting on her experience working on the series as well as her admiration for her co-stars. Sharing a still from the sets of The Royals on Instagram, the actress first apologised to fans who are waiting for her series on the Kapoors. She revealed, 'Some of you must be awaiting my series on the Kapoors, but since I'm quite obviously in the midst of a promotional blitzkrieg for The Royals, it has to wait another week or so." Moving on, she talked about her upcoming series and her honest and earnest appreciation for the teamwork and effort that went into creating The Royals. Clarifying that the post is not a studio directive, she talked about the struggles of shooting for long hours at this age. In her post, she expressed, 'The truth is that as I get older, shoot schedules leave me exhausted. At the end of a 10- to 12-hour workday that involves tedious time in the makeup chair, heavy costumes and jewellery, searing heat and frenzied activity, I am left with swollen ankles and drooping eyes. It's all quite unglamorous, but then I watch myself on screen and see what a coup the team managed. Talking about her character, she revealed, 'Maji Sahiba is absolutely entitled, queenly, tart and intimidating, just as she was scripted!" View this post on Instagram A post shared by Zeenat Aman (@thezeenataman) The veteran actor then took a moment to appreciate her young co-star Ishaan Khatter. Zeenat penned, 'Now, while every member of the cast and crew did their best to ensure my comfort, I must admit I am most charmed by the young Mr Khatter. Here is a boy whose star is on the rise, yet he made it a point to prioritise my well-being. From assisting me down the stairs to my vehicle to bringing me fresh ginger ale to sip on between takes and conjuring up cushions for the uncomfortable plastic chair I had to sit on during readings, he exhibited the courtesies and grace I thought had become virtues of the past. I also witnessed his immense dedication to his work as he honed his horse-riding and dancing skills to embody his royal character." Blessing Ishaan for a successful career. She added, 'I wanted to post about Ishaan many months ago when I returned from our last schedule in Jaipur. But both Zahaan and Cara insisted that I wait until we were closer to the release date to share my thoughts. Prudent of them, since my sentiments remain the same, but perhaps this timing is better to air them. @ishaankhatter, you have an ally in me, and I give you all my blessings for a successful career (and meaningful personal life)." 'Everyone on the project has put their best foot forward with their tireless hard work and dedication to The Royals. I am truly elated for us to bring this to you!" she concluded. Coming to The Royals, the series boasts a star-studded cast of talented actors, including Zeenat Aman, Ishaan Khatter, and Bhumi Pednekar. Other celebrated artists in the film are Chunky Panday, Sakshi Tanwar, Dino Morea, Nora Fatehi, Milind Soman, Kavya Trehan, Vihaan Samat, Udit Arora, Sumukhi Suresh, Lisa Mishra, and Luke Kenny. Helmed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana and written by Neha Veena Sharma, The Royals will bring forth the new-age romance. Mark your calendars! Netflix announces front-row seat to Bollywood royalty
On Tuesday, Netflix India announced a show catered exclusively to one of the biggest families in Bollywood, the Kapoors. The show, titled Dining With The Kapoors, is yet to confirm a release date, though Netflix has told us what to expect. "A seat at the table with one of the oldest and grandest Bollywood families," the official handle wrote. "Watch The Kapoors engage in unfiltered conversations, unending gossip, and unbelievable life stories." Starkly reminiscent of the popular reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Dining With The Kapoors is already being subjected to mixed reviews online. "This Netflix title made my day. I have honestly waited so long for a Kapoor show, and it's finally happening!" gushed one user. "Superb! Waiting to watch this series. I love the Kapoor family," exclaimed another. However, aside from the praises, sceptical netizens have been on a roll ever since the show was announced. "Netflix's obsession with Bollywood families has surpassed mine," wrote one critic. "Netflix, are you running out of content?" another posed. While some users predicted that the show will be promoted to the extent that it shows up on everyone's feeds uninvitingly, others couldn't help but wonder who asked for this. "I'm sure that after a few days, everyone in Bollywood is going to have a show dedicated to their families," one user remarked, observing the influx of young actors who are born to star families in the industry. One critique that has survived the test of time was once again directed to the streaming site. "Netflix cancelled good TV shows and storylines to show us how rich people eat... I'm sure their issues with hunger matter the most," a user sarcastically noted, calling out the site for notoriously dropping beloved shows. Observing that the poster highlighted old family members and in-laws, some even expressed that they missed seeing daughter-in-law Alia Bhatt and baby Raha Kapoor. "Where are Alia and Raha? They are the only Kapoors I want to see," a user wrote candidly. "If they show Raha then I'll be interested," another user said. Raha has captured the hearts of her parents' fans in the little time they have gotten to know her. Aunt Shaheen Bhatt shared an Instagram post on Tuesday, flaunting a click by her little niece, and enthusiasts couldn't help but be in awe of the two-year-old's photography skills. Some even speculated that she has inherited this talent from her father, Ranbir Kapoor. It surprises no one then that netizens await an appearance from the little star-in-the-making in a show dedicated to her paternal family. Inheriting the spotlight Speaking of star kids securing a spotlight for themselves, Aryan Khan revealed the title of his directorial debut - also with Netflix - featuring none other than his megastar father, Shah Rukh Khan. Called The Ba***ds of Bollywood, a video teasing Aryan's entry into the industry was uploaded on Monday. The video opens with Shah Rukh exhibiting a suave performance, only to be told by the purposefully concealed director to do several more takes. What soon turns into a hilarious skit shows the King Khan riled up at the director and asking him if the set functions on his father's reign. "Yes, it does," Aryan confidently says, as he reveals himself to the camera. Aryan, who was known to maintain a stoic persona in public, flashed a smile that became a greater highlight than his father's presence. Netizens could only wonder if he was saving the bright grin for his big moment.
