Karen Spragg, 60, from Caerau, Cardiff, who is alleged to have made calls, sent letters and attended the home address of Mr and Mrs McCann, denied a charge of stalking the family at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Monday. She appeared alongside a Polish national who also pleaded not guilty to stalking the parents and siblings of Madeleine McCann after claiming to be the missing girl in the past. Julia Wandel, 23, from Lubin in south-west Poland, appeared in the dock at Leicester Crown Court accused of making calls, leaving voicemails and sending a letter and WhatsApp messages to Kate and Gerry McCann. Article continues below She is also accused of turning up at their family home on two occasions last year and sending Mr and Ms McCann's other children Sean and Amelie McCann Instagram messages. Both will appear at the same court for trial on October 2. Madeline McCann vanished while on holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal, with her parents Gerry and Kate. There has been no trace of the three-year-old since 2007.

Woman charged with stalking McCann family
A woman has been charged as part of an investigation into the alleged stalking of Madeleine McCann's family. Karen Spragg, of Caerau, Cardiff, has been charged with one count of stalking involving serious alarm or distress between 3 May 2024 and 21 February this year, Leicestershire Police said. The 60-year-old is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Friday. On the same day, Julia Wandel, 23, of Lubin, Poland, is due to appear at Leicester Crown Court after she was charged in February with four counts of stalking against the McCann family. Ms Wandel is accused of stalking Kate and Gerry McCann and Madeleine's siblings between 3 January 2024 and 15 February 2025. She is alleged to have gone to the family home in Leicestershire on 2 May and 7 December 2024. She is also accused of sending a letter to the family along with calls and messages on Instagram and WhatsApp. Madeleine McCann's disappearance at the age of three during a family holiday in Portugal in 2007 is one of the most widely reported missing child cases and remains unsolved. A 60-year-old woman has been charged with stalking Madeleine McCann's family. Karen Spragg, of Caerau, Cardiff, has been charged with one count of stalking involving serious alarm or distress, Leicestershire Police said. The alleged offence is said to have happened between 3 May 2024 and 21 February 2025. Police said she was arrested today and is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Friday. As part of the same investigation, Julia Wandel, 23, is also scheduled to appear at a court in the city the same day. Wandel, from Lubin in Poland, was arrested at Bristol Airport last month, charged with four counts of stalking and remanded in custody. She is alleged to have gone to the McCanns' home, as well as making calls and sending a letter and WhatsApp messages. Madeleine disappearance on holiday in Portugal in 2007 remains one of the world's most well-known missing person cases. The three-year-old vanished after her parents left her in bed with her siblings as they had dinner nearby. The couple, from Leicestershire, have criticised Portuguese authorities for their investigation into her abduction. The man suspected of kidnapping her will not face any charges in the foreseeable future, a prosecutor told Sky News earlier this year.
