Revealed: Florian Wirtz's parents 'set for £8.6m payday' after negotiating the German star's £116m move to Liverpool

Florian Wirtz's parents are reportedly in line for a major payday as their son closes in on a mega-money move to Liverpool. The German star is set to complete his switch to Anfield for a British record fee of £116m after Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen reached an agreement last week. Wirtz is due to undergo his medical on Friday before finalising his transfer to the Premier League champions. And this is also going to be good news for his parents. According to Bild, Wirtz's mum and dad, Hans and Karin, have been working on his behalf to negotiate his move and are due to receive a hefty commission that will total around €10m (£8.6m) across the course of his five-year contract at Liverpool. Wirtz has trusted his parents rather than an agency to get the deal over the line and they have delivered. He is now on the brink of joining his former Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong in England. Wirtz and Frimpong - who completed his own £29.5m transfer to Liverpool earlier this month - shared a photo of themselves on a boat soaking up the sun off the coast of Montenegro earlier this week. They are set to be linking up on the pitch soon after enjoying plenty of success together in Germany. The duo won a domestic double under Xabi Alonso in 2023-24, before adding the German Super Cup to their collection last season. Alonso has now moved on to manage Real Madrid, while Frimpong is settling into life at Liverpool. Wirtz will be by his side shortly, barring any unforeseen setbacks, and has his parents to thank for securing his switch to Merseyside. They were made to work for their commission as well, with Leverkusen initially playing hardball when Liverpool first made their approach for Wirtz. Arne Slot has moved quickly to strengthen his squad after their Premier League title triumph Liverpool had bids of around £100m and £110m knocked back, but eventually reached an agreement with the Bundesliga side. It is understood that the Reds will pay an initial fee of £100m, with achievable add-ons then taking the final payment to £116m.

Revealed: Liverpool's 'audacious plot to HIJACK Manchester City's move for Florian Wirtz' as Arne Slot's champions 'enter the race to land £126million-rated Bayer Leverkusen star'

Liverpool have launched a plot to hijack Manchester City's move for Florian Wirtz with the race for the Germany star taking another turn, according to a report. Wirtz's parents met City officials on Tuesday during a flying visit in England - but didn't speak to Pep Guardiola, with the club's manager out of the region ahead of the FA Cup final this weekend. City have long since hoped to lure Wirtz to the club and are pressing ahead with attempting to secure a deal in light of Kevin De Bruyne 's departure after 10 years at the Etihad Stadium. Mail Sport revealed last week that City are awaiting news on discussions between the 22-year-old and his parents, Hans and Karin, over the direction of his career. Wirtz is understood to have softened his stance on joining City in recent months and the Premier League appeals to the attacking midfielder. But City are not the only club interested, with Bayern Munich also pursuing his signature and Wirtz's mother of the opinion that he should stay at Bayer Leverkusen for another season. And now, according to Kicker, Liverpool are also keen on signing the £126million-rated star. The publication reports that Wirtz's parents met Liverpool during their trip to England. And with both Hans and Karin making the journey, they also report that Florian himself was too present, taking a private jet to assess the Liverpool area. Pictures published in German newspaper Bild show both parents at Maastricht-Aachen Airport in the Netherlands on Monday evening after arriving back from a nine-hour round trip. Wirtz has 33 goals and assists in 44 matches for Leverkusen this season and Real have been interested in the Germany international. City's director of football Hugo Viana is working alongside the outgoing Txiki Begiristain during a handover period across the transfer window. According to German journalist Christian Falk, Wirtz had been set to reject a move to City to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. The report states that Wirtz has agreed a move to the Bavarian giants, with Bayern prepared to offer €100million (£84.7m) to bring him to the Allianz Arena. That, though, is well short of Leverkusen's valuation, and Bayern would surely have to cough up a larger fee amid competition from the two Premier League sides. If Leverkusen opt not to sell their prize asset this summer however - or if he choses to stay - Bayern are ready to wait until the summer of 2026 to make a move for the Germany international. It is unclear if City and Liverpool would be too. Despite prior reports stating Wirtz still has three years remaining on his current deal at Leverkusen, the midfielder's current contract is set to expire in 2027. It follows a hugely impressive campaign where Wirtz was vital in Leverkusen's unprecedented unbeaten Bundesliga season in the 2023-24 campaign, which also saw them pick up the DFB-Pokal. Wirtz has made 29 appearances for Germany, scoring six times, and has established himself as one of Europe's hottest prospects. Last month, Leverkusen's CEO Fernando Carro told Radio Marca Wirtz would command a fee of 'at least €150million', although he later suggested this was a mistake. In February, Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge announced they would target Wirtz this summer and it seems as though that is the direction of travel. In an interview with AZ, Rummenigge said he makes 'no secret of the fact that it must clearly be our goal to sign Wirtz'. He added: 'Everyone at FC Bayern agrees that he is exactly the player we want to sign. Not to weaken Leverkusen, but to strengthen us.' Bayern's honorary president Uli Hoeness has also spoken about Wirtz's qualities in a separate interview with AZ, but admitted there could be financial obstacles.

Florian Wirtz's parents fly to Manchester as City rival Bayern Munich for Leverkusen midfielder

Florian Wirtz's parents made a whistle-stop trip to Manchester as the race for the Germany midfielder steps up with Pep Guardiola's side firmly in the running. Manchester City are targeting the Bayer Leverkusen playmaker but Bayern Munich have made the early running for the 22-year-old and Real Madrid cannot be ruled out with Xabi Alonso, the player's current manager, set to join them. As revealed by Telegraph Sport this week, City want to add AC Milan's Tijjani Reijnders to their midfield in a major overhaul this summer, with Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White another on their radar. But Wirtz would be seen as a natural successor to the departing Kevin De Bruyne and a potential move is expected to be one of the transfer sagas of the summer. He is represented by his parents, Hans and Karin, and there is thought to be a split in the camp about his next destination. Hans was pictured returning to Maastricht airport in the Netherlands after a flight from Blackpool and gave no comment to a reporter. Any move for Wirtz is expected to cost more than £100 million, given the competition for his signature and the player's reputation after winning the Bundesliga and going to the European Championship with Germany. He has two full seasons left on his contract which means he will command a huge fee. While some German reports suggested the parents met Guardiola, it is understood that the City manager is not currently in Manchester, although they were clearly travelling on transfer business. Guardiola is looking at rebuilding his midfield, having added central defenders in January. But he is also in the market for a right-back following Kyle Walker's departure to AC Milan in January. City could still win the FA Cup and add silverware to their disastrous season. 'This year has been a different journey but it is part of the growth and character of the team. We have shown lately that we can deal with the pressure, we now have to secure our spot in the Champions League and win the FA Cup,' said City midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
