Criminal injured in bid to escape from custody in Ghazipur
Varanasi: A
notorious criminal
, who tried to strike fire by opening fire during a dispute in Rampur Manjha area of Ghazipur district on Wednesday, was arrested on Thursday.
When he attempted to
escape from police custody
by opening fire at the police team, the officers retaliated and he suffered a bullet injury on his leg and he was nabbed again.
Due to his reign of terror, locals were initially unwilling to lodge any case following the incident of firing.
A 32-bore pistol, one used cartridge and two live cartridges of the same bore, along with a magazine, were recovered from him.
According to reports, as part of the ongoing campaign against crime and criminals, police arrested
Karmveer Singh
, alias Sunny Singh, resident of Devchandpur village in the Rampur Manjha police station area of Ghazipur district in connection with a case number lodged under sections 288, 351(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Arms Act.
He was taken to a location in Devchandpur village for recovery of illegal weapon used in firing on Wednesday.
On getting injured during cross-fire, he was sent to nearby PHC Devkali for first aid. He said he attempted to escape by firing at police to establish dominance and instil fear in the area. He is also a history-sheeter of the Rampur Manjha police station.
