RCB fans heartbroken as victory parade gets cancelled after Bengaluru Police denies permission: ‘We waited 18 years for this moment'

After 18 long years of heartbreak and near misses, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally lifted their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy with a thrilling six-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) on June 3. The team was all set to celebrate their long-awaited win with fans in an open-bus victory parade through Bengaluru after landing in the city at 3:30 PM IST on June 4. Excitement was already building among supporters, many of whom were planning to line the streets to cheer for their heroes. However, the parade has been cancelled, and instead, a felicitation ceremony will take place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Why has RCB's victory parade been cancelled? The much-anticipated RCB victory parade has officially been called off after Bengaluru police reportedly denied permission to the franchise. The open-bus parade was meant to be a heartfelt thank-you to fans who've stood by the team for nearly two decades. Instead, the Bengaluru Traffic Police issued an updated advisory confirming that there will be no victory parade. They also urged the public to avoid the Central Business District (CBD) area between 3 PM and 8 PM and to opt for Metro and public transport, citing limited parking near Chinnaswamy Stadium. The last-minute change has left many fans visibly disappointed, especially those who had already gathered to witness history. While no detailed official explanation has been released, authorities have raised concerns about crowd control and logistical safety. Felicitations for going ahead at Chinnaswamy Stadium Though the street parade may not happen, the celebrations are not completely cancelled. RCB will be felicitated at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium from 5 PM to 6 PM IST on the same day. The event will be open only to ticket and pass holders. With very limited parking near the venue, the public has been advised to use Metro services and public transport. Fans express disappointment over last-minute cancellation Many fans expressed their frustration online, upset that the long-awaited victory parade was cancelled at the last minute. Several called it a missed opportunity to celebrate the historic win with the city. One user wrote, "RCB fans waited 18 years for this moment, and there's no victory parade? While traffic concerns are real, the Karnataka Government had ample time to plan better. Celebrations shouldn't feel like an inconvenience. They should feel like a festival, especially in Bengaluru." RCB fans waited 18 years for this moment, and there's no victory parade? While traffic concerns are real, the Karnataka Government had ample time to plan better. Celebrations shouldn't feel like an inconvenience. They should feel like a festival, especially in Bengaluru. Another user said, "I'm not even an RCB fan, but the Karnataka Govt. cancelling the open bus victory parade is taking away a lot from the fans. If anyone deserved to celebrate this victory with the team, it is the people of the city who waited and supported the team for 18 years! I'm pretty sure that's what the team also wants." I'm not even an RCB fan but the Karnataka Govt cancelling the open bus victory parade is taking away a lot from the fans. If anyone deserved to celebrate this victory with the team, it is the people of the city who waited and supported the team for 18 years! I'm pretty sure… "You just ruined the hard-fought victory after an ~18-year drought. And it's not just on behalf of every Kannadiga; RCB has fans pan-India and across the globe. PLEASE ALLOW VICTORY PARADE, DO NOT HURT THE FANS. Karnataka police should take a leaf out of Mumbai Police's books," a third fan added. I don't care what you do @RCBTweets , we want a victory parade, pull all the strings in your strength, make it happen please 🙏🏻🙏🏻, if those corrupt leeches political leaders are shameless asking for bribes, give them that, but please make it happen 🙏🏻🙏🏻#ViratKohli𓃵 #RCB "Please tell me the news reporting as Victory parade cancelled due to traffic congestion is just rumours. We Bangaloreans have always suffered the traffic congestion, today is no different; if there's congestion, we will suffer one more day," mentioned one user. @BlrCityPolice @CMofKarnataka please tell me the news reporting as Victory parade cancelled due to traffic congestion is just rumours. We Bangaloreans have always suffered the traffic congestion, today is no different, if there's congestion we will suffer one more day. #RCB Virat and the team had been waiting for this moment For RCB, this parade wasn't just about the trophy; it was about finally sharing their triumph with their fans. Virat Kohli, who top-scored in the final with 43 runs, had earlier said he would only fully 'feel it' when they celebrated the win in front of the people of Bengaluru. This win marked a full-circle moment for Kohli, who has been part of the RCB journey since the beginning. The team, along with player of the match Krunal Pandya, had been eagerly looking forward to riding through the city with the trophy — a moment now left hanging in the air. Close monitoring, early identification: Karnataka issues COVID-19 guidelines for schools ahead of June reopening

In light of the prevailing COVID-19 situation and the scheduled reopening of schools in June, the Karnataka Government has issued a set of precautionary measures to be followed by government and private schools. The move follows a COVID-19 situation review meeting held on May 26, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Aimed at safeguarding the health of students, the guidelines emphasise the need for early identification and isolation of symptomatic children. According to the directive, children exhibiting symptoms such as fever, cough, or cold should not be sent to school and must receive appropriate medical care. They must be allowed to return only after their symptoms have completely subsided. Schools have been instructed to closely monitor students and immediately send home any child who displays symptoms while on campus. Parents are to be informed without delay in such cases. The advisory also extends to teaching and non-teaching staff, urging them to take similar precautions and avoid attending school if they exhibit any sign of illness. In addition to monitoring symptoms, schools are expected to reinforce COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour (CAB), including proper hand hygiene and cough etiquette. Authorities have called for strict implementation of these safety protocols in the interest of student health. As of May 31, according to the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka has reported 114 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours and over 360 cases since January 2025. According to the state health department, one death was reported on May 25 – a 62-year-old man in Mysuru with comorbidities passed away due to septic shock with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome along with COVID pneumonia and hyponatremia (low sodium).

Court quashes order withdrawing 43 cases including Hubballi riots

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has quashed the Karnataka Government's order withdrawing 43 criminal cases including the Hubballi Riot case. The state government had quashed 43 cases including those involving activists and politicians on October 10, 2024. Girish Bhardwaj had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the government's action. Hearing this petition, a two-judge bench of the High Court comprising CJ NV Anjaria and Justice KV Aravind quashed the government's order and issued an order on May 29. This has created another worry for the Siddaramaiah government. When reporters questioned CM Siddaramaiah about this, he said that he did not know that the court had cancelled the government's order and that he would speak about it after learning about it. On the other hand, C T Ravi responded and welcomed the court's order. They bring in anti-communal forces. On the other hand, they give shelter to those who create communal conflicts. The communal virus has infected the cabinet. If a Hindu dies, a rowdy sheeter, if a non-Hindu dies, they feel sympathy. Therefore, the court's verdict is timely. The Udayagiri incident took place as a result of withdrawing the case. There is no sense that something should not be used for politics. Therefore, they attacked the state government for being reprimanded by the court. During the PIL hearing, the court had said that if the action of the cabinet is illegal, it will not agree and will not allow the withdrawal of cases. The opposition BJP leaders had objected to the Siddaramaiah government's decision to withdraw the old Hubballi riot case. They had also written to the President and the Prime Minister about the government's move. Following this, Siddaramaiah responded by saying that he had deliberately filed a case because there was a false case. If a case was filed during a protest, there is a possibility of withdrawing it. There are examples of cases being withdrawn in all times. They were withdrawn because there was a false case. We will withdraw the case only if the court allows it. We will inform the court of our cabinet's decision. On April 16, 2022, a young man had posted a controversial post. There was a riot in this regard and the agitated people pelted stones at the police and vehicles in front of the old Hubballi police station. 11 FIRs were registered in this regard and 155 cases were registered. More than 10 police vehicles were damaged in this incident and two police personnel were seriously injured. In September 2024, the DG-IG, who had written a letter to the SPs and Commissioners of all districts, had requested them to provide information about the cases of withdrawal of cases in your districts. Following this, a decision was taken in a cabinet meeting led by CM Siddaramaiah to withdraw the cases registered against those registered in the Hubballi riots. The opposition BJP expressed strong opposition to this. However, the government withdrew the cases and issued an order.

Internal reservation in mind, Karnataka launches survey of SC sub-castes

The Karnataka Government has launched a survey of Scheduled Caste (SC) communities to enumerate the sub-castes within each parent group. The exercise is being carried out based on the recommendations of an interim report by the Justice Nagamohan Das Commission which was formed to submit a report on internal reservation for SCs in the state. The survey will be carried out in three phases: the first phase will be from May 5 to 17, during which door-to-door surveys will be done to collect empirical data, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told a news conference on Monday. The second phase will have special camps for those who have not been enumerated in the first phase, and it will be held from May 19 to 21. The government will also open an online mode in the third phase of the survey from May 19 to 23, under which members of SC communities can self-declare their sub-castes and respond to other queries in the survey questionnaire. The handbook on 'Comprehensive Survey of Scheduled Castes – 2025' says that it will collect data on the number of members of an SC family, educational details including reasons for discontinuing studies, employment details, annual income, benefits derived from reservation policy in the education sector, assets owned by the family surveyed, source of drinking water, and nature of dwelling area among others. These details will be compiled under the 101 sub-castes listed in the SC category. 'After getting exact data, we have asked the Commission to submit details in 60 days. Recommendations (on internal reservation) will be made after that,' Siddaramaiah said. Across the state, 65,000 teachers appointed by the deputy commissioners of respective districts will serve as enumerators. The survey was required as the state government did not have exact details on the population of Adi Dravida, Adi Karnataka and Adi Andhra communities, which was crucial to provide internal reservation. The ongoing survey will ensure that members of these communities are enumerated properly under the correct SC sub-categories, he said. The one-man Commission was formed in November last year, following a Supreme Court decision which empowered states to provide internal reservation for SC communities. States such as Telangana and Haryana have announced quotas within the SC category since the decision. After the Commission was set up, the government also decided to withhold issuing a fresh notification for government jobs from the Karnataka Public Service Commission until the issue of internal reservation for SC communities was settled. The SC community, numbering around 1.3 crore in Karnataka, is classified under four heads: SC Left, consisting of the most backward communities; SC Right, who are less backward; communities such as Banjaras and Bhovis; and other minor communities. Towards the end of its tenure, the previous BJP government had in March 2023 announced internal reservation for SC communities which was not implemented. Under the scrapped policy, the SC Left community was given 6 per cent of the 17 per cent reservation quota for SCs, while SC Right got 5.5 per cent, communities such as Banjaras and Bhovis got 4.5 per cent and other SC groups got 1 per cent. The announcement back then was met with violent protests in parts of the state.
