Suriya's 45th film gets a powerful title ‘Karuppu'
Tamil star Suriya's 45th film, directed by RJ Balaji, has been officially titled Karuppu, as announced by the makers on the occasion of the director's birthday. The movie is nearing completion, with only patchwork left to be filmed. Post-production is currently in progress, and the film is slated for an August 2025 release. The film's title—Karuppu—is inspired by the folk deity Karuppusamy, also referred to as the 'Black God.' The title poster features a commanding visual of Suriya holding a sword, standing in front of an image of the deity. While Suriya's face remains unseen in the poster, the mood suggests an intense and powerful role. Trisha Krishnan stars opposite Suriya, marking their reunion after two decades. The duo last shared screen space in the 2005 film Aaru. This film also brings Suriya back in collaboration with producers SR Prabu and SR Prakash Babu of Dream Warrior Pictures, who previously produced his political thriller NGK. Touted as a high-concept action adventure, Karuppu promises to blend mass appeal with RJ Balaji's signature humor. Cinematography is handled by GK Vishnu, while Sai Abhyankar, a rising talent, is composing the film's soundtrack.

Suriya Collabs With Director RJ Balaji For His Next Film
Chennai: The makers of director RJ Balaji's eagerly awaited action thriller, featuring actor Suriya in the lead, on Friday announced the title of the film as 'Karuppu'. Taking to its X timeline, Dream Warrior Pictures, the production house producing the film, wrote, "With pride and excitement, we present the title of #Suriya45: 'KARUPPU'. Director RJ Balaji, for his part, wrote, "#Suriya45 is கருப்பு #Karuppu @Suriya_offl" The makers also released a poster that showed the silhoutte of a man holding a machete in his hand. Actress Trisha plays the female lead in this film, which will also feature Malayalam actors Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika and Tamil actors Yogi Babu and cinematographer and actor Natty in pivotal roles. The film has music by young music sensation Sai Abhyankkar, and cinematography by GK Vishnu, the very same cinematographer who impressed with his work in films like Vijay's 'Bigil', 'Jawan' and 'Mersal'. R Kalaivanan will be the editor of this film, which will have Vikram Mor choreographing stunts for the film and Arun Venjaramoodu as art director. It may be recalled that actor and director RJ Balaji, who is also a well known commentator, had chosen not to be a part of the commentary team for this year's IPL because of directing this film. RJ Balaji, who is known for his quick, witty remarks and who has been a successful Tamil commentator, had in a video clip announced his decision. He had said, 'I am someone who believes that a person must focus on only one task at a time and do it well. Therefore, I am doing one job now. As I have to direct a film and as I have several responsiblities, I thought I should give a small pause to my stint as an IPL commentator,' he had said. Stating that he felt bad even saying that he wasn't going to be commentating, RJ Balaji said that this was 'just a small pause' and that 'After I finish this shoot, God willing, I will see you all in the next season of the IPL.'

Karuppu is the title of Tamil superstar Suriya's upcoming film with director RJ Balaji, the makers announced on Friday (June 20) with a title-look poster. The news was announced on the occassion of Balaji's 40th birthday. The poster features a silhouette of a sickle-wielding Suriya standing before what appears to be a Karuppusamy temple. The poster hints at a raw and rustic mass action entertainer on cards. Karuppu stars actor Trisha as the female lead, marking a reunion with Suriya after nearly two decades. The cast of the film also features Swasika, Indrans, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, Yogi Babu, Natty, and Supreeth Reddy among others With music scored by Sai Abhyankkar of 'Katchi Sera' and 'Aasa Kooda' fame, the film has cinematography by GK Vishnu and editing by R Kalaivanan. Anbariv and Vikram Mor have served as the action choreographers. Produced by SR Prabu and SR Prakash Babu of Dream Warrior Pictures, Karuppu is currently in its final leg of shooting. According to a press release, the makers are eyeing a release in theatres on a festival day.
