Unfazed by terror threat, devotees flock to Mata Kheer Bhawani Mela in Kashmir

Ganderbal: As the sacred annual Mata Kheer Bhawani Mela draws near, large numbers of pilgrims have begun arriving in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district, undeterred by the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. With unwavering faith in the Indian Armed Forces, devotees, particularly from the Kashmiri Pandit community, are preparing to celebrate one of their most revered festivals on June 3 at the historic temple of Ragnya Devi in Tullamulla. The shrine, dedicated to Goddess Ragnya Devi -- a reincarnation of Goddess Durga -- becomes a focal point of religious fervour each year as devotees from across India and abroad converge for the Mela. Despite heightened tensions following the brutal April 22 Pahalgam terror incident, the spirit of the pilgrims remains unshaken. Extensive security arrangements have been deployed across the region to ensure the safety of the devotees. Authorities have assured that all necessary measures -- including drinking water supply and essential amenities -- are in place to provide a worry-free experience for pilgrims. Kashmiri Pandits, many of whom were displaced during the 1990 exodus, have expressed that their devotion remains stronger than ever. They also lauded the Indian government and armed forces for launching 'Operation Sindoor' in response to the Pahalgam attack, calling it a fitting reply to Pakistan-backed terrorism. "The terrorists tried to spread fear, but our devotion has only grown," said a pilgrim from Chandigarh, speaking to IANS. "They want to derail tourism, but Kashmir is a part of India. We will keep coming here. No one can frighten us." Another devotee, Sunita, who migrated to Delhi during the 1990s, expressed deep emotional resonance on returning to the shrine for the first time. "We're not scared even after the terror attack. Mata Kheer Bhawani called us. We are here because of her and because of PM Modi. This is all possible because of him," she told IANS. Umar Raina, another pilgrim, told IANS, "We only pray that Kashmiri Pandits are able to come back to their motherland. We want peace to prevail in Kashmir and to return to our homes." Sharing similar sentiments, Shriti Dhar, a regular visitor to the Mela, said, "Our armed forces have always protected us. We are proud of them. The arrangements this year are really good. We've witnessed violence since our childhood, and the Indian Armed Forces have always been our shield." Meanwhile, top officials, including IGP Jammu and Kashmir Police, DC Jammu Sachin, and Relief Commissioner Arvind, flagged off the Mata Kheer Bhawani Yatra in Jammu.

Six terrorists gunned down in two major operations in Kashmir: Indian Army

The Indian Army neutralised six terrorists in two separate encounter operations carried out in Jammu and Kashmir, news agency ANI reported. The operations were carried out by Indian Army along Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force. The first operation was carried out in Kellar in Shopian district on May 14, in which three terrorists were gunned down. The second operation was carried out in Tral in Pulwama on May 15. IGP Kashmir, VK Birdi said, "In the wake of heightened terror activities in Kashmir Valley, all the security forces deployed here reviewed their strategies. Following this review, there was an intensified focus on operations. On the basis of this intensified focus and coordination, we conducted two successful operations in the last 48 hours during which we had significant achievement. These two operations were conducted in the Kelar in Shopian and Tral areas, which resulted in the neutralisation of a total of six terrorists. We are committed to finish the terror ecosystem in Kashmir Valley." Elaborating on the operations carried out, Major General Dhananjay Joshi, GOC Victor Force, said, "On May 12, we got information on the possible presence of a terrorist group in the higher reaches in Kelar. On the morning of May 13, on detection of some movement, our parties challenged the terrorists, who retaliated with fire. Our parties neutralised them. The second operation in Tral area was conducted in a border village. As we were laying a cordon at this village, the terrorists positioned themselves in different houses and fired at us. At this time, the challenge we faced was rescuing the civilian villagers. After this, three terrorists were neutralised." The encounter in Shopian was carried out based on intelligence inputs. Taking to X, the Indian Army wrote, 'On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a #RashtriyasRifles Unit, about the presence of terrorists in the general area of Shoekal Keller, #Shopian, #IndianArmy launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire, and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in the elimination of three hardcore terrorists (sic).' On Thursday, the Kashmir Zone Police shared an update on X and stated, 'Three terrorists have been neutralised in the Tral encounter. Identification & affiliation being ascertained. Search operation in progress.' This comes after the security forces have intensified anti-terror operations in the Valley following the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. Operation Sindoor Tensions escalated between India and Pakistan after the former retaliated to the Pahalgam attack by launching a coordinated missile strike on terrorist infrastructure at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), under a code name 'Operation Sindoor'. After the Indian armed forces launched precision strikes, Pakistan resorted to heavy artillery firing across the border areas along the Line of Control (LoC). After four days of engaging in drone and missile strikes, both India and Pakistan, on May 10, agreed for an 'understanding to stop all firing and military actions'.

Bengaluru's top 25 startups worth more than Pakistan, claims BJP MP PC Mohan

Bengaluru BJP MP PC Mohan sparked online buzz after claiming that the combined valuation of the city's top 25 startups exceeds the entire GDP of Pakistan. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Mohan wrote, 'Bengaluru's top 25 startups are worth more than Pakistan's entire GDP.' The statement appears to underscore Bengaluru's growing global stature as a startup capital, often referred to as India's Silicon Valley. Home to tech giants and unicorns like Flipkart, Swiggy, Razorpay, and Byju's, the city has seen a surge in venture capital and innovation in recent years. (Also Read: Bengaluru man arrested for provocative video against PM Modi; sedition charges invoked) According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), India's real GDP growth for 2025 is projected at 6.4 per cent, with the economy valued at $4.19 trillion in current prices, Financial Express reported. In contrast, Pakistan's economy is expected to grow at a slower pace of 2.6 per cent in FY25, with a GDP of approximately $373.08 billion, the report further added. PC Mohan's remark comes amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, following the Indian military's Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. In this charged geopolitical climate, Mohan's comparison of Bengaluru's startup wealth to Pakistan's GDP is being seen by many as a pointed statement underscoring India's economic and technological rise in contrast to its neighbour.
