CWC grants custody of Vaishnavi's son to maternal grandmother
Pune: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has officially declared Swati Kaspate, mother of late Vaishnavi Hagawane, as the "fit person" to take custody of her nine-month-old grandson. The decision followed a comprehensive social investigation report from the district child protection officer. "The report stated that her (Swati Kaspate's) social, emotional and family environment was conducive to the child's welfare and so she has been deemed the appropriate person to take care of the child. The complete responsibility for the child's education, health and overall development will rest with Kaspate," stated the minister's tweet. According to the Juvenile Justice Act, the CWC can appoint a fit person to take care of a child if biological parents are not present or admit him/her to a child care unit. District collector Jitendra Dudi told TOI that the custody order of Vaishnavi's child was passed based on the social investigation report submitted by the district child protection officer, after proper investigation. "The order to give custody of the child to the maternal grandmother was taken after home visits only," he said. "Under Section 52 (1) of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 (amended 2021), and the Rule 30 (1) of the Maharashtra State Juvenile Justice Rules, 2018, the custody of the child has been retained with Kaspate so that he is properly taken care of. Lookout notice for associate wanted in Vaishnavi dowry death case
Pune: The Bavdhan police have issued a lookout circular for Karvenagar resident Nilesh Chavan, a business associate of Shashank Hagawane. Chavan is wanted in the case of threatening Hagawane's father-in-law Anil Kaspate at gunpoint. The incident occurred when Kaspate went to Chavan's house to take custody of his nine-month-old grandson. There is no trace of Chavan three days after a case was registered against him. After Vaishnavi's death, the Hagawane family moved her son to Chavan's home in Karvenagar. Her family has claimed that Chavan did not properly care for the child. In a related development, police impounded another four-wheeler belonging to Vaishnavi's father-in-law, Rajendra Hagawane, and brother-in-law, Sushil. They used this car while they were on the run for seven days before their arrest on Sunday from the Swargate area. "The car is owned by the president of the NCP's Mulshi taluka youth wing," an officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad police told TOI. Senior police inspector Anil Vibhute of the Bavdhan police said teams have been sent to track down Chavan. "We have already issued a lookout circular," Vibhute added. The Warje Malwadi police have registered a case against Chavan for issuing threats, criminal intimidation under relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act. His name was also included under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Vibhute said that they have seized two sports utility vehicles used by Rajendra Hagawane and his son Sushil during their run. "One of the SUVs is owned by Sushil, while another belongs to their acquaintance," he added.

Close aide of Hagawane family booked for criminal intimidation
The Warje police on Thursday registered a case against Nilesh Ramchandra Chavan of Karvenagar for allegedly threatening the Kaspate family on May 19. The Kaspate family had gone to Chavan's residence to take custody of their late daughter Vaishnavi's child. According to the police, Chavan has a criminal background, with cases under Sections 376(2)(n), 392, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) registered against him at the Warje Police Station by his wife. In the latest case, Chavan has been booked under Section 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 30 of the Arms Act. He is also known to be a close confidante of the Hagawane family, particularly its head Rajendra Hagawane, who is currently absconding following an FIR in connection with the suicide of his daughter-in-law Vaishnavi.
