Cape Cod restaurants: See what's new since last year on the Cape and Islands
New Cape Cod restaurants since last summer? How about three ramen shops, a boho Mexican kitchen in Chatham's old Cumberland Farms, new owners and a new name for Kate's Seafood in Brewster, and a self-serve wine bar at Mashpee Commons - just to name a few?
With Memorial Day weekend upon us, it is time to welcome visitors back to Cape Cod and the Islands with news of new restaurants that have opened in the last year.
In food news about new accolades for restaurants you may already know and love, USA Today named The Rooftop at Pelham House Resort in Dennis Port as one of the best restaurants in the country, while Sesuit Harbor Cafe in Dennis came in first when Cape Cod Times readers voted in a March Madness-inspired bracket. The Cape Cod Times also named 10 other restaurants we wish had made the USA Today list.
Here is a brief introduction of new restaurants on Cape Cod since last summer.
If you are a noodle fan, you are in luck: Tiger Ramen opened in Falmouth, Namazu Ramen is now in Chatham and Ukiyo Cape Cod took over the Brewster space formerly occupied by Fare & Just Kitchen. (Former owner Peter Duff is now cooking his vegan dishes at the Family Table Collaborative in Yarmouth.)

'It's kind of a play on words cause when you meet someone from Chatham and ask where on the Cape they're from, they bend up their arm and point to their elbow. Codo means elbow in Spanish,' said Michael Martir, chief operating officer of Coastal Cuisine, the hospitality group that owns the new Codo Mexican Kitchen, as well as Pate's and Chatham Cut in Chatham, Chapin's Bayside on Taunton Avenue in Dennis, The Doghouse and One-Stop Market in Dennis Port.
After 39 years as Kate's Seafood, the popular fish stand run by John and Kathy Ohman at 284 Paines Creek Road in Brewster has new owners and a new name: The Cape House is now owned and run by Robert and Izabelle Crisanti, who say they are keeping the fried fish and scooped ice cream menu for now.
J. Bar, a healthy seasonal stop in Harwich Port for the past decade, opened its doors April 4 to a second location in the Shops at 400 Main in Chatham.
The Wharf Falmouth, formerly Soprano's Casino by the Sea, has the same owners but a new name and new menu crafted by Chef Gavin Tyson who is focusing on 'French-based by the sea Marseille-styled dishes,' he said on Facebook. The restaurant at 286 Grand Ave. in Falmouth Heights offers spectacular water views.
The Daily Brew purchased Silver Lounge in North Falmouth and held a yard sale of memorabilia from the 87-year-old restaurant – although word is the caboose was not for sale. The popular coffee house and cafe closed its doors in Cataumet on May 11. No word yet on when the new location will open.
Cymbals Cafe @ The Faraway Nantucket Hotel is open, with house-made doughnuts and Partners Coffee from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesdays through Sundays. You don't have to be a hotel guest to enjoy coffee and doughnuts in the courtyard.
Uva, the self-service wine bar that opened in downtown Plymouth in 2019, opened a second location in Mashpee Commons this past January. Just this month, they added a boutique-style shop next door so people can take home wines they enjoyed at the tasting bar.
In Dennis, Erica and Adam Dunn, owners of Pheasant Restaurant and Dunn & Sons Wine, are opening Baleine Wine Bar Cape Cod (from the French word for whale) in the space occupied for decades by Harvest Gallery Wine Bar, which permanently closed.
Also, theater fans can style the best afternoon or evening out with the help of Cape Cod Times' Dinner & a Show, a feature in which we introduce a local theater production and recommend two nearby restaurants to try.
