Former Honolulu police chief returns to Hawaii
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Former Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha has been released from the Oregon prison where he was serving time on federal corruption charges and is now back home in Hawaii.

Kealoha, along with his wife Katherine and two Honolulu police officers, was convicted in 2019 of obstruction and conspiracy in a public corruption case that shook the state's law enforcement community.
According to retired federal public defender Alexander Silvert, Kealoha earned credit for good behavior under updated federal guidelines — roughly two months off for each year served — allowing for his early release.'At this point in time, Mr. Kealoha has completed his jail,' Silvert said. 'He's been released to what would be considered a halfway house or home confinement situation, which will last for about a year.'
After that period, Kealoha will serve three years of supervised release. He is permitted to reenter the workforce to help repay restitution tied to a related civil lawsuit.

Silvert said Kealoha's transition marks the beginning of his reintegration into the community under federal supervision.
