Upstate couple accused of sexual and physical abuse of children

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – An Upstate husband and wife are accused of sexually and physically abusing their children, beginning in the 1980s. The Greenville Sheriff's Office began an investigation in April after a victim reported extensive abuse in their family home. The abuse allegedly began in the 1980s, deputies said. The suspects, 70-year-old Kathy Chorbajian and her husband, 73-year-old Myron Chorbajian, had seven adopted children and one biological daughter. Two of the victims, who were children during the abuse, are now dead, deputies said. According to deputies, the boys would be physically abused and the girls would be sexually abused. Warrants were issued on May 15, and the Corbajians were arrested that same day by the Metro Nashville Police Department. The couple has since been transferred back to the Greenville County Detention Center. Arrest warrants detailed that some of the abuse included searching through dumpsters and eating rotten food, being beaten with a belt until they lost consciousness, being paddled without clothing, being tied to a basketball post and being hit with a belt, and breaking coffee mugs over the children's heads. The children were also forced to sleep outside in garbage cans, witness gruesome deaths of their pets, and eat dirt off the floor as punishments, according to the arrest warrants. They were charged with the following: Myron Chorbajian Unlawfully placing a child at risk/harm, 14 counts Criminal sexual conduct with a minor, second-degree, three counts Incest, three counts Criminal sexual conduct, second-degree Assault and battery, second-degree Kathleen Chorbajian Unlawfully placing a child at risk/harm, 14 counts Accessory to a felony, two counts Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
