Bengals' Trey Hendrickson clears the air on contract dispute, says he won't play on his current deal
CINCINNATI — Trey Hendrickson showed up at Paycor Stadium on Tuesday in dress pants, a collared shirt and a black hat. He wasn't dressed for practice, despite standing to the side of the Cincinnati Bengals' scheduled session. He was dressed for a meeting with the media. Hendrickson, embroiled in a contract dispute with the club, unloaded about 'disappointment' with how talks have gone and feeling like things got 'personal' between him and the team. Advertisement The runner-up for NFL Defensive Player of the Year said he received a text from coach Zac Taylor specifying he would be fined if he did not attend mandatory minicamp next month. Hendrickson pointed out the frustration in that messaging, considering what he dubbed a lack of communication with the organization over the offseason. Hendrickson was asked explicitly if he was willing to play out this season under his current contract, which has one year and $21 million remaining. 'No,' he said, notably the only answer in the 25-minute session in which he didn't elaborate. This marked the fourth time Hendrickson has addressed the media about his contract situation. He spoke at the Super Bowl to 'The Pat McAfee Show' and went on McAfee's show again after Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn commented about his contract at the league meetings. Hendrickson offered a statement to ESPN on Monday before showing up at the team facility Tuesday. Hendrickson spoke to different members of the organization as he dropped into the facility, but notably, no members of the family ownership who attended. He admitted frustration over the narrative that he knew the Bengals could receive predetermined compensation when he was permitted to seek a trade in March, the communication throughout the process and the fact that the numbers haven't reflected the change in the defensive end market due to contracts signed by Maxx Crosby, Danielle Hunter and Myles Garrett. 'I'm not going to apologize for the rates of the defensive ends being paid in the National Football League,' Hendrickson said. But, most of all, this latest situation was about the text sent from Taylor about the minicamp fine that Hendrickson felt made this personal. 'A little bit transpired between me and Zac,' he said. 'We've tried to keep it as least amount as personal as possible, but at some point in this process, it's become personal. Being sent 30 days before mandatory camp, or how many ever days it is, that if I don't show up, I will be fined, alludes to the fact that something won't get done in that time frame. Advertisement 'With the lack of communication post-draft made it imminently clear to my party — meaning my wife, my son and my agent, a small group of people — that I had (to) inform that this might not work out. I don't think it was necessary. I think we should have all hoped for the best until proven otherwise.' Hendrickson left the door open to figuring out a solution, despite the clarity that the answer doesn't involve him playing out the current contract. It's also clear that the offseason of drama surrounding the NFL's sack leader is far from over. 'I think every relationship is repairable, right?' he said. 'Like, I think Myles Garrett proved that he's a great man, and he's done great things for his family, and obviously providing on and off the football field. He's tremendous. But I think that relationship will repair with time. And same with this. This is just the uncomfortable business side that we've unfortunately had to deal with for the last couple years, and, quite frankly, I think we're all spent.'

Bengals to find out on May 13 if they will be playing the Dolphins in Spain
The NFL announced it will release the full international schedule on Tuesday, May 13 on NFL Network's 'Good Morning Football.' Cincinnati will get its full schedule a day later on Wednesday, May 14. This announcement impacts the Bengals because there were reports they would be playing the Miami Dolphins in Madrid, Spain in November. To this point, the team has yet to be told if they are going to be traveling overseas. Advertisement 'We asked (the NFL) when we saw those reports and they wouldn't tell us anything,' Bengals' executive vice president Katie Blackburn said at the NFL's annual league meetings. 'In 2025 or 2027, you could go as the home team, but the visiting team still has the opportunity to go, and it seems like the only one that would match up would be the Madrid game because of the opponent. We don't know. We'll find out when they announce it.' Rumors began to swirl early this year when the mayor of Madrid, Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida Navasques, reportedly said the Miami Dolphins will host the Bengals in a game at the iconic Bernabeu Stadium. The NFL announced the Dolphins were chosen as the home team in Madrid. Cincinnati is one of Miami's nine scheduled home opponents. So, it very well could be the Bengals picked to play the Dolphins in Madrid instead of Miami. Spain isn't the only possibility of an international game for the Bengals. While it seems unlikely the league would place an important division game overseas, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the host team for the NFL's first game in Ireland this year. The Bengals will play the Steelers in a home and away series as they always do, leaving the door open for a potential AFC North showdown in Dublin. Advertisement Typically, the NFL has stayed away from taking a division home game away from teams, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. If the Bengals don't play in Ireland or Spain as a road team this year, they will be heading overseas soon. Cincinnati is expected to be a host team for an international game in 2027, according to Blackburn. 'We still should be a home team (internationally) in 2027,' Blackburn said. The NFL is scheduled to play seven international games in the upcoming season. Hamilton County, Cincinnati Bengals reach preliminary agreement on stadium improvements
CINCINNATI (AP) — Hamilton County and the Cincinnati Bengals have reached a preliminary agreement for $185 million in improvements to Paycor Stadium for the 2026 season. Hamilton County commissioners will vote on the agreement on April 29. The team and county agreed to a memorandum of understanding Monday night and it was discussed during a county commission meeting on Tuesday. The agreement would be the first step toward both parties agreeing toward a new lease and up to $830 million in stadium renovations. The Bengals have called Paycor Stadium home since 2000. It was originally named Paul Brown Stadium until the team sold the naming rights in August 2022. The first phase would cover upgrades to the club lounges, stadium suites and concessions. The Bengals would pay $120 million for those improvements with some of the money coming from a loan under the NFL's G-5 program. The county would pay $64.5 million for fixes to escalators, elevators, the electrical grid, glass refurbishment and fixes to the stadium scoreboard control room. Both sides have until June 30 to agree to a new lease or approve the first of five two-year extensions. The Bengals' original lease expires on June 30, 2026. Bengals Executive Vice President Katie Blackburn told reporters during the recent NFL meetings 'we could, I guess, go wherever we wanted after this year if we didn't pick up the option. ... We are having discussions, and so we're hopeful that the county is thinking about it a lot too and wants to get it addressed in a way that would be beneficial to both of us.' Hamilton County has asked the state of Ohio for $350 million for stadium improvements. The request comes as state lawmakers are also considering the Cleveland Browns request for funding toward construction of a new domed stadium in the suburb of Brook Park, which is about 15 miles (24.14 kilometers) south of Cleveland.
