Married At First Sight's Katie Johnston reveals more heartbreak after her shocking match on Channel Nine show: 'My window for having a family is closing'
Married At First Sight bride Katie Johnston has shared heartbreaking news following her split with her TV husband Tim Gromie. Katie, 37, was brutally rejected by the serial dating app user, who continuously said on the show he wanted a 'petite blonde.' The Queensland-based singleton has been open about overhauling her lifestyle and approach to health and wellness after her brief and 'triggering' MAFS marriage. Now she has revealed she thinks she is going through perimenopause. 'I'm pretty well convinced now that I'm on a perimenopausal journey which means I'm biologically drying up,' Katie told her 106,000 Instagram followers on Thursday. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'That means that my window for having a family is closing.' In a tearful and reflective video, Katie said that she doesn't want to 'rush' her fertility options 'with the wrong person'. 'But it's a very confronting time,' she admitted in the emotive post. Perimenopause is the transitional period a woman experiences before menopause, marking the end of her reproductive years. It is characterised by fluctuating hormone levels, primarily estrogen, which can cause a variety of physical and emotional symptoms. 'If I had already had that journey and had kids then it wouldn't hurt so much,' Katie continued. 'But whatever my path is, I'll make the most of it. 'Whatever comes my way, whatever knocks me down, I get back up. I'm just realising I spent a lot of time sabotaging myself.' Katie immediately won the affections of 2025 MAFS viewers as a romantically challenged woman who had been routinely rejected in the past, but hoped to end her decade-long single status. She married PE teacher Tim in one of the first episodes of the season. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Katie (@itswildbykatie) Tim described himself as being 'too nice' and unfussy when it came to looks, only to reject her immediately. In a shocking behind-the-scenes moment, Tim pulled a producer aside during their wedding reception to vent his frustrations. 'Totally not what I wanted. Not good,' he said. 'I normally go for short, petite, blonde or brunette. Katie's nothing like what I usually go for. There's just no attraction. I can tell straight away.' Twelve months on from filming her edit for MAFS, Katie looks markedly different to the beleaguered bride fans saw over the first week of the long-running Nine series. She spent several months 'healing' in Canguu, Bali after the series aired. 'I just want you to know that if life hasn't panned out the way that you dreamed of, in the time that you're in, it's okay,' she continued on Thursday. 'You can just reframe it. You can make the most out of what you've got and the opportunities that come up in different ways.' Katie's fans flooded her comments section with well wishes and advice, as they urged her to go and see a fertility specialist. 'Katie please go and speak to a fertility specialist on what your options are. Having a family looks different for everyone. Peri doesn't close the door at this point. As confronting as this is, please know you can still have children, it just may be a different process. Take care,' one follower wrote. 'Sweetheart, please look into having your eggs frozen. Then you can increase your window and wait for the right man or choose to do it alone. You are amazing beautiful lady,' added another.

Book details advice for cancer patients to counter 'world full of nutrition misinformation'
Cancer patients face 'a world full of nutrition misinformation', a top dietician has warned as the Irish Cancer Society and University College Cork launch a book to tackle the problem. Treatments such as surgery and radiation therapy can cause early menopause and the symptoms are likely to be harsher and last longer than a natural menopause, according to the HSE. The Irish Cancer Society has now partnered with University College Cork dietitians to create a booklet for patients facing this struggle. Dr Samantha Cushen and Katie Johnston from the School of Food and Nutritional Sciences and Cancer Research at UCC, have co-authored Menopause, Diet & Cancer. Dr Cushen said finding clear nutrition advice is vital. 'For too long, women have been left to piece together guidance from too many - often conflicting - sources,' she said. 'In a world full of nutrition misinformation, this book brings it all together, offering clarity, compassion, and credible answers in one evidence-based guide designed to support, inform, and reassure.' It includes scientific evidence, patients' lived experience, and advice with input from 16 patients. She said trusted advice on diet should be a standard part of care, saying: 'Much more needs to be done to ensure every woman has access. And we are determined to make that a reality.' In Marguerite Herlihy's case, she was shocked to enter sudden menopause aged just 40 after treatment for breast cancer. The mother of three said: 'This experience has been one of the most difficult and unpredictable challenges I've ever faced.' She explained: "The very treatments that are keeping me alive also carry long-term risks to my heart, bones, brain, and other vital organs.' She welcomed the book, saying there is information in it that she wasn't able to find anywhere else. 'This is the first Irish publication that has truly made me feel seen,' she said. 'Not just in terms of my diagnosis, but in the full complexity of what I'm dealing with.' It can be downloaded free from the Irish Cancer Society website. Meanwhile, pharmacy chain Boots on Wednesday announced its 94 stores in Ireland will join the state's free HRT scheme for menopausal women. The chain will share details on how to use HRT prescriptions on the Boots website and in pharmacies from June 1. MAFS: Katie stuns with major career update after leaving experiment
Katie Johnston may not have found love on Married At First Sight following her disastrous romance with Tom Gromie, but she didn't quite leave the experiment empty-handed. The mismatched pair both chose to leave the experiment on Sunday night after Tim declined to move into the Skye Suites with Katie and an explosive dinner party in which his co-stars lambasted him for how he treated his bride. Yahoo Lifestyle can reveal that 37-year-old Katie has spent six months since filming wrapped creating a free online course to help other women recognise toxic traits in themselves and potential partners. The course is also designed to give them tools on how to build their self-esteem and confidence. 'Most people have no idea that Katie has a degree in behavioural science and a major in psychology, and she's very passionate about using everything she's been through and learned about herself to help other women,' a source connected to the reality show said. Meanwhile, last week, Yahoo Lifestyle also revealed how since filming wrapped last year, the reality star has spent time working on herself and learning to love who she is. She now has a brand new lease on life, and Tim's rejection is said to have been 'the catalyst that pushed her to address her issues and learn where they come from'. It's taken me a long time to feel really good in my own skin, and I feel like this is just a good reinforcement of that,' she gushed in a video on-set of a photoshoot at Studio Republic, which the studio shared with Yahoo Lifestyle. Unfortunately, the newly confident star is yet to find love but is still said to "be open to finding her perfect match" but for now is "focusing on herself". Since finding fame on Married At First Sight, Katie's business practices have hit the headlines after it was revealed that the 'social enterprise' group of restaurants she'd mentioned on the show – which used its profits to help others who are doing it tough had collapsed. 'The repayment plan is in place and being maintained. Covid ruined a lot of businesses and continues to ruin people's lives as we struggle with cost of living and mass business closures,' Ms Johnston told The Sunshine Coast Daily.
